@iandunt.bsky.social this is a good observation. Another example is a couple/family not being able to pool their tax free allowance. 1 earner on Β£50k pays quite a lot more tax than 2 on Β£25k each. But lines must be drawn somewhere

If the WiFi is good enough, we can sign her up to Disney and watch animated films all day long. DVDs might seem like a better alternative, but despite not leaving her room, she’ll manage to lose them so that she can get new copies ordered. It’ll be like opening a present.

Cost of a new kitchen, when the entire room needs attention, is quite frightening. The cost of a car. And not what my brain thinks a car should cost.

The afternoon has been spent fixing the mower’s border wire again. There were two cuts and two faults. I have a new technique. A spare length of wire connected to a break with wago blocks. If green, join to the loop, split the loop halfway through what’s left and repeat. A binary search, basically. Only use a gel filled waterproof one-use connector when that part of the loop is known good.

Cape Fear is quite ridiculous. Stretched to 10 episodes, half of which is a completely over the top loud melodramatic score over mundane scenes. But Amy Adams, Javier Bardem , Juliette Lewis, Ron Perlman, is a hell of a cast. Plus, Jamie Hector (Mario Stanfield), is now 50, (which is the age Clark Peters was in The Wire), but could probably pass for 35. He’s got to have a painting in the attic.

As usual, my time calculator misfired. At 14:40, I figured I’d have a coffee before I loaded the car. I took the coffee outside to drink in between taking out the parcel shelf and seats and getting as many branches and twigs in bags as I could. Then daughter found out I was going. There was a rug and a treadmill to go. It’s about a 45 min drive. At 15:13, I noticed the time was 15:13. Loaded the bags and zoomed off.

Spurred on by @marcoarment urging folk to buy their tech sooner rather than later … an M4/15/256 MBA ordered for the missus to replace her smashed M1. Via Currys. With a work discount palaver, that’s Β£752. Not sure that the 6% saving is worth the stress of paying out to an e-card, going through the checkout process and not being entirely sure how to do it or if it’ll actually work, but it’s done. That’s Β£97 saved vs a refurb from Apple (Apple had none, but they were Β£849 a few days ago).

The fun part with the new MacBook will be trying to get the old one to cooperate with a migration. I think all the documents will be fine in various cloud services. It has apps and settings that might be interesting though. Like Office. I cancelled our subscription, but it *should* be available from her work account.
