@aral@mastodon.ar.al Man, I'm always conflicted w.r.t. "small web": I recently built a small toddler sleep tracker for shared use with my wife. I want to share the result and chose the simplest deployment option imaginable -- a single PHP file. In these situations I often think of you and wonder why you picked a different route, and what I am missing.

https://xn--gckvb8fzb.com/i-regret-migrating-to-codeberg/ rants about #codeberg ToU changes now disallow 'vibe-coded' projects; the blog post announcement is phrased oddly. I'm a voting member, and the votes on the PR were more like 70%/30% pro/contra; it's not divisive, but at least not unanimously backed -- and still it is a much more sensible position in isolation: https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/org/pulls/1253/files The blog post I didn't vote for, and it goes beyond the...

I've just fixed the LSP and SourceKit project setup for better caching of symbols in the app and now Emacs file opening takes forever for some arcane reason. Gah!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpDjzw4NFtc This bench is cool. I am cutting with hand-held circular saws for the first time in my life and I'm super careful and don't trust the murder blades. Workholding and having clearance for the blade at once isn't trivial. But here, you just have a slatted tabletop to do the job. Cool! #woodworking

My daughter doesn't let me sit in front of the computer for 5min -- but we can sit on the floor and she hums along and plays with dirt while I do woodworking for 30--60min easily. If this is a common pattern, modern work and family is broken.

@mattiem@mastodon.social I believe we should all reach out to friends and other devs and organize something. https://christiantietze.de/posts/2025/02/leverage-to-influence-apple/ Set up a chat real quick somewhere, whip up a complaint. Sign it. Spread, share, make more people protest in concert so that we don't feel alone.

I think we should ship a browser extension with a regexp that replaces phrases like "This is what Gemini/ChatGPT/Claude/... said about ..." with "I shat on the carpet and this is what it told me"

I've been using the pi agent for a couple of weeks and the fact the tool is able to modify itself through interactions is really nice. It's like starting with a less capable Emacs, but one where you don't need to spend as many years fiddling with things before you get things like UI popovers center screen to increase readability of long walls of text, for example. I think that malleability is what draws me in.

Hey folks ๐Ÿ‘‹ @simonbs recently mentioned how genuine, human blogging doesn't get the attention from The Algo's, internet's dead, etc. I suggest a crafty countermeasure: Swift Blog Carnival. A host per month, setting a topic, gathering posts from the community. ๐Ÿ” To bring the community of writers together and also showcase smart people who don't have an audience. WDYT? @mattiem @donnywals @twostraws @azamsharp @dimsumthinking @helge @natpanferova @marioguzma...

How do y'all make windows (including sheets) on macOS have a tasteful size with SwiftUI? It feels like I'm fiddling a bit much with e.g. manually telling paragraph-long labels to wrap onto multiple lines to not push windows to become very wide. This may be necessary after all -- but maybe there is a way that does things more ... automagically? What are your approaches?
