https://uk.news.yahoo.com/starmer-accused-unpicking-brexit-uk-110033260.html About time he just decided to do it, and reclaim the high ground... Those that wanted BREXIT and are the target audience for this s*** are NEVER going to vote for him, and those that would require him to get closer!!! 48% is the minimum that have wanted to return since 2016... And now it's reported to be 60% that want a better relationship!

@ShredderLivesOn A lot of this harks back to the "Family man", the "breadwinner" historic perspective. The older man has not only more experience and skills (which might be a reasonable reason or excuse for a rising scale of wages) but also has a family to support. It's the same prejudice as the working woman is only earning "pin money" and doesn't need to be paid as much even when doing the same work! It's a prejudice which takes no notice of how...

The Far Right is still attacking the EU, from both without and within pushing against supporting Ukraine for Russia and Russia itself using misinformation to erode support for the EU and at the same time supporting Right Wing, anti-EU parties like those in Hungary. https://notesfrompoland.com/2026/04/07/polands-economy-42-larger-thanks-to-eu-membership-finds-new-study/

I have been rereading a book I first read in my youth, (and allowing it's by R Heinlein and so is filled with some right wing views) it did strike me when I read this damming of the popularist nonsense about "too many experts", "common sense" and the like! "I remembered a time when my grandmother had asked me to explain television to her—the guts, not the funny pictures. There are things which cannot be taught in ten easy lessons, nor popularized for the masses; th...

@Geri@mastodon.online That The Orange Baby can be trusted to use a our facilities in one way and not another anyway... And I was listening to the LBC US correspondent speaking about UK non-involvement in various US Wars and the one he forgot was the Vietnam War which Wilson refused to join in with... The UK has a long and honourable tradition prior to Blair (Iraq not Afghanistan) of not getting involved in US Wars unless WE thought it was a good and just thing to do. And now our servicemen...

The problem is that, the only folk wanting PR are the ones that aren't expecting to win under FPTP. So Labour, under Blair's predecessors, were moving towards PR. then when elected....lost interest. Labour before the last election ... again talking about it but.... The only folk ever to put a version to the public was the minority...

@georgemonbiot.bsky.social What's good for me is that the Labour Party can see a massive load of voters to their left; and NOT just as the Far Right Media keep suggesting ex-Labour or discontented Labour voters moving to Reform ... Hopefully they will get rid of Starmer and move back to their roots too. Better yet seeing the massive left leaning vote, decide that they need to pass voting change (as they promised) so we can see left governments elected Even if not a single party.

@Tattooed_Mummy@beige.party "It's amazing to think that over half the people who are eligible to vote just haven't bothered." Indeed I was surprised and concerned about the numbers given that the average turnout in the UK is usually in the 60% s even around 70% (I still think that's low.... but normal sadly) Also by-Elections are usually marked by better turn outs But having checked it ... Wikipedia tells us that the turn out did drop from previous GE, but only from 48...

@MostlyHarmless@thecanadian.social Exactly why the rich push "The American Dream!" by which they imply to the workers that they should always think they might be the rich: so that they never want to tax the rich, because they might be those rich one day. Nor restrict their power for the same reason. Finally they tell them that they should be allowed guns... not so the workers can rise up.... but so they (the rich) can employ their own private army of armed "security"

@ahltorp@mastodon.nu @MarkHoltom@mastodonapp.uk Interesting they say "It's no secret that iPhones live longer than Android phones." But quote no studies or such to support that statement Most iPhone users I know change their phones out every 2 years because their contract allows that (which they pay through the nose for) or if they own it sell it off for a good price second hand. Personally I brought my android handset in November 2022 and am not in the market for anything new s...
