This will be a small fediverse experiment! In my hunt for complete versions of Baldur's Gate I and II, I somehow ended up with duplicates of both. Would anyone be interested in a trade? These are complete versions of the Scandinavian release. I'd be particularly interested in big box versions of Ultima III, Ultima VII Serpents Isle, Ultima Online (orig. release), Divine Divinity, Fallout 2. But show me what you got! #gaming #crpg #baldursgate #trading

I am recruiting a Ph.D. student! The Ph.D. will explore generative user interfaces (GenUI): UIs that are partially or fully generated to fit needs, skills, circumstances, or preferences using generative artificial intelligence. We are concerned with how this can be done in a way so professional computer users maintain control, ownership, and autonomy. The deadline for applying is August 1st 2026 with a start of the Ph.D. in January 2027. See the full call here: https://phd.nat.au.dk/for-appli...

Hanging out on late.sh (https://late.sh) tonight. It's a weird and janky Discord/IRC/MUD-thing running in the terminal with ssh. It's most likely vibe coded and a completely centralized benevolent dictator-run thing. But its... pretty fun!

RE: https://mastodon.social/@256/116970359828976678 This brings back memories! I got online at home spring 1996. WebCrawler was my search engine of choice.

Kære dansktalende på Mastodon. Min familie vil gerne have hjælp med at finde danske ord der rimer på 'Clemens'. De er dybt frustrerede over ikke at kunne bruge rim i deres daglige mobning af deres respektive far og husbond.

Has anyone tried Fellowship? https://store.steampowered.com/app/2352620/Fellowship/ It looks like it might scratch an MMO/World of Warcraft itch without requiring 1000+ hours of level grinding. #gaming #mmo

Hey @vga256! Just finished your Mages & Modems book. Thanks for a great read! I could relate to a lot of your early computer experiences, although mine started a few years later. Perhaps I should try to note some of my own down too some time. One of the first one was playing Karateka and Space Invaders in DOS on a 8080 in my dad's physics lab. Must have been in 87 or 88. Lots of phone-line-blocking family agony in my past too.

Today, James Eagan (@eaganj) and I presented MyWebstrates: Webstrates as Local-first Software at UIST 2024. Since we presented Webstrates (webstrates.net) in 2015, we have been trying to figure out how we could get rid of the need for a central server. With help from Peter van Hardenberg (@pvh), we figured it out!

RE: https://www.angrymetalguy.com/hallas-panorama-review/ Hey @vga256, I don't know if you are into prog rock but here's a band that names Ultima as inspiration and builds wild scifi-fantasy universes in their songs.
