We tried to sneak out and take Henry (the high-energy three-year-old springer) on a good long forest hike, but Buddy (the thirteen-year-old springer) used up one of his very few daily turbo tokens to get past us and hopped into the car. So we made the best of it and split into two teams as soon as Buddy ran out of juice. I then took him for a long drink of water and helped him back into the car, and we listened to an audiobook while we waited for the other team. He was very pleased with hims...

I do love the notes I leave to myself for the next day (when I remember to do so). Today's is rather brief though: "YOU ARE HERE: you broke everything!!!!" #coding

Just swam in a lake! That might not sound like headline news unless you've heard my shrieks for each new inch of skin that gets submerged.

Linux is annoying because, depending how fast each of my monitors wake up, I sometimes get the same content on both. Linux is great because I can write a script to fix that, then create a file that lets me add it to the launcher bar, so I can fix it instantly with a single click instead of having to turn a monitor off and on again. (Yeah sure, so maybe I did spend just a little too long making an SVG icon for my shortcut, too. And yes, I could have added this to a startup script but I'...

My stupid brain is now trying to find exceptions to this perfectly reasonable and thoughtful post. For example, in winter, the people of the Faroe Islands might have to invade another country to get adequate sunshine to produce solar power. https://mastodon.social/@greenpeace/116449076859304519

I was so pleased with myself for wiping my troubled System 76 clean and putting Pop OS on it last week. Today I had my first google meet and, apart from sound, mic, and video, everything went great. #linux

I just wrote about the often unexpected hazards of switching from troubled times to good at a company which I entitled: The calm storm before the stormy calm And now I'd like to receive some sort of writing award please.

Just had a dark thought. What if most people, when walking down a long corridor, never bother to defocus their eyes and bank their head from side to side a little, pretending their view is from the cockpit of an x-wing fighter zooming through the trenches of a death star? Surely not. What a dull life that must be.

I know it's not quite the same style but Angine de Poitrine really reminds me of Ozric Tentacles (who I was lucky enough to experience live in Exeter in the 90s). Must try and locate their old records again. #music

Can very much recommend the audiobook Doppleganger written and narrated by Naomi Klein. Was putting it off for such a long time because I couldn't imagine how deep and interesting a book about someone getting confused with another person could be. Second listen complete and I just started Crisis Engineering by Marina Nitze, Matthew Weaver and Mikey Dickerson. So far so good. #books #audiobook

Bunked off work this morning for a spot of snowboarding with my wife, partly because we are lucky as hell to be able to do so, and partly to see if a splash of adrenaline can shift this migraine I've had on and off for a few days. I discovered, while putting on my gloves, that my son had borrowed them yesterday and they had become very wet inside. Due to not wanting to take warmish wet gloves off at any point on the hill, I was unable to take any photos. My fitness tracker, which freq...

Just did my cello practise where I managed to get all the way to the end of Shubert's Unfinished Symphony. I basically finished it. #cello #adhd

This morning's challenge is to decide whether or not to scowl at yesterday me. My work notes end abruptly and there is nothing to inform today me of where I got to. This would have been especially helpful given that I seem to be halfway through dismantling something important to make it work better. On the other hand, yesterday me's reason for abandoning work part way through was to give the dogs a walk before cooking a rather splendid family dinner. I think I'll let...

A little disappointed that we finally reached the current episode of The Pitt yesterday meaning that we are rationed to one episode per week now. Its so damn good. And I'm glad it's becoming popular. I much prefer my television heroes being members of the caring classes, battling not just injury and disease, but bureaucracy, ignorance and the status quo, than those licensed to use violence to enforce the status quo. #tv

Spellchecker just suggested "idiocrasy" after my third attempt at trying to spell "bureaucracy". I think it's developing a sense of humour.
