If we reached the point where they came into my house I'd be fucked no matter what, so I'd take as many as I could with me. No use in making my death meaningless.

What I'll defend, however, is fractional measurements when precision matters. With decimal measurements, precision can't be nearly as granular. If your measurement is precise to one 1/8 of a unit, how do you represent that in decimal? 0.625 implies your measurement is precise to the nearest thousandth, but rounding it to 1 also isn't precise. 5/8, however, tells you the measurement AND the precision. With fractional measurements, you can specify precision by changing the denominat...

That song taught me that no matter what you're describing, if you call something "ironic" *somebody* will correct you.

When Inwas in college, I saw that the local high school was putting on a performance of "The Secret of Monkey Island." My best friend and I loved the games and were excited to see it, so we bought tickets. I cannot express how bad it was. I've sat through some awful shit, but we just couldn't take it. We walked out of a high school play because it was *that* bad.

The only person serving time for a global conspiracy to rape children is a woman. She's a terrible woman who deserves it, but it's still telling.

I'm a third-party non-employee lecturer at my local university. I teach scuba, underwater photography, and scientific diving. The courses are taught off-campus at a dive shop using the shop's its classrooms, pool, and equipment. The liability insurance is paid by me. There's a lake on campus we dive at, and the university charges students to enter it. The students have to pay $3000+ in tuition for some of my classes. ...and the university doesn't give me or the shop a dime....

The little ones were worse in my experience. They tended to turn better on the axles and with couple guys spinning on the outside you could *really* get them going, then have the people riding move to the inside and it blue-shifts.

Sure is a good thing doing this dishes is the most complicated and least-pleasant thing people can do... Who's gonna volunteer to go through years of training specializing in commercial diving in wastewater to treatment plants for free?

Dude - I just need you to type in the admin password so I can install software or fix whatever is wrong that you don'tunderstand. We really don't need to spoon. I wouldn't actually mind if they actually vetted the software, but they just type in the password and install whatever I click on. I once changed the name of an installer for a new version of QGIS to "IT malware installation test" and they didn't even notice.

They were way more repairable though. We had a gas dryer that lasted 40 years and was only replaced because we moved somewhere without gas. It was basically a big egg timer with an electric motor and a gas burner. You could fix anything on it with a crescent wrench, screwdriver, and off-the-shelf components from the hardware store for about 9 bucks. The replacement dryer has had to have $1000+ circuit boards replaced more than once.
