During COVID, there was a video posted by a guy, I think on YouTube, where he was just riding his bike around his city. He was talking about how going for a bike ride just makes everything better. I have been looking for this video for a few years but haven't had any luck. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, I would really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Thanks!

So, my move to a BSD isn't going as quickly as I would like, and I wanted to get off of Debian since the whole vote to go pro-AI debacle. I figured moving to a Linux distribution that has a very strong anti-AI policy would be the right choice until I can get a BSD installed properly on my desktop or extra laptop. More than a year ago, I tried @elementary@mastodon.social. It's an awesome project but I could never get my workflow working with the desktop environment. Most definitely not th...

Another shot of the St. Louis Arch that I took during my bike commute home. This one was taken in 2023. I'm pretty lucky that my daily commute takes me through the St. Louis Arch National Park to the Metro station. #amateurPhotography #photography

I went out, today, on the bike and took the Lumix GX1with me. Took upwards of 35 shots and hated everyone of them when I returned home and looked at them on the computer. I really need to get better at this. I think my problem is that I just don't have "the eye" for photography. I really hope it comes with practice because I'm a bit discouraged. #photography #amateurphotography

RE: https://social.aktaeon.net/@zendorea/117326617030703504 This is typical, and honestly, I didn't expect anything else. What is also normal or typical is that absolutely nothing will be done about this.

RE: https://circumstances.run/@davidgerard/117322654185564343 Yesterday, I shared Nate Graham's blog post about the current AI mess within the project, and actually commented positively on the post. But after reading this, and the comments on Nate's blog post (and his replies), I've changed my mind. Things aren't getting better, they are just getting worse.

A friend gave me a Panasonic Lumix GX1 to play around with. I think this will be the perfect camera to take with me while commuting on the bike. #photography

Okay, tomorrow I will be back to work trying to get @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org installed either on my desktop or laptop. I took a break for a week but I really need to get this done. After 30 years, I think I am done with Linux. I'm struggling to move on, but I know it's the right thing to do. For my small home server, I'm not sure what to install on it just yet. I know that I can get FreeBSD going rather quickly but there's the AI issue. Would NetBSD be a good option for the serv...

Thank you to Nate Graham from the @kde@floss.social project for clearing a lot of this AI mess up for us. As a Plasma user, this article from Nate was not only helpful, but made me feel much better about the direction the project is taking with regards to AI. KDE and AI, and you, and me https://pointieststick.com/2026/09/23/kde-and-ai-and-you-and-me/

It's gloriously chilly today. After a summer of almost daily 100 degree F temps, 70 degrees feels wonderful.

The Omarchy Linux distribution is currently ranked 15 on DistroWatch's download list. And the number is going up compared to the last ranking. We have a lot of work to do getting people to realize what they are supporting by downloading this garbage. #omarchy

Someone asked the other day in a DM about links to my other social media platforms. I'm not on any other social media platforms. No need to be. My home is in the Fediverse. Yes, I am on another Fediverse instance, though. Trying out littleFedi and it's been a great experience. 😀 You can find me at: @cmccullough@littleone.littlefedi.social I don't post as much there as I do here, but that might change very soon. If you're interested in learning a bit more about littleFedi: ht...

How bad do things have to get for Congress to finally decide to do its job? I mean, seriously, how bad? To the rest of the world, as an American, I am so sorry, and I'm absolutely embarrassed.

I keep forgetting that I have a premium @lwn account, and then someone posts a news article from LWN. Just bookmarked it on my Bookmarks toolbar so I won't forget. 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone tried the new FreeBSD Desktop Installer? I've tried to get it to work multiple times but it just doesn't, for me, at least. After completing the install of Xfce, there's no display manager (I've tried both options) and there's no desktop. When I watch a video from the FreeBSD Foundation on the installer, it seems to work flawlessly for them. I think this is supposed to be built-in to 15.2 when released. Maybe I'll have better luck then?...

I've been a Linux user for more than 30 years. And out of those 30 years, I've been running Debian for the past 20. But since their decision to use AI or not is still "up in the air", I've been testing distributions that are vocally against AI usage, just in case I have to make the switch. For the past week, I've been running @elementary@mastodon.social on an extra desktop. And yes, before any of you reply, all Linux distributions are now tainted by the Linux kernel (th...
