Where to start with setting up my own server? Good news selfhosted crowd! I pitched the idea of setting up a server, and she is down with the idea! I want to run Linux and host things like Jellyfin, Audiobookshelf, Navidrome, maybe Plex (I currently host it off my Mac desktop but would move it to a dedicated server). I know you can host Plex et al on something like a Raspberry Pi, but I want a bit more power. I want something that can push at least 2-3 4K streams. I’m considering targetin...

No, their laptops were pretty good about 10-12 years ago. Mac guy, but Macs weren't great in the Intel era. I was advised to get an HP laptop. The one I was looking at was very highly rated. Can't remember the name. Bought one from Asus with better specs. I would have been fine with the HP. We used to have Elite Desks at work and they are dogshit. I kinda want one though. 8th Gen i5 with 8GB RAM. I wanna toss the hard drive and put an SSD in it. Then put Steam OS on it. I bet it would...

If by sleaze you mean sex, as others have answered, go with Yofukashino Uta by Creepy Nuts. Japanese rap. Look up the video on YouTube and enable subtitles if you don’t understand Japanese. It’s a funny video, but it’ll also tell you exactly what he’s saying (they translate the title as Stayin’ Up Lullaby, but it’s also known as Call of the Night, as in the manga it inspired and its anime adaptation). As far as depressing… I’m gonna go with Shirushi by LiSA because it’s the ending theme to the...

I’m good with asking DuckDuckGo for help with a game and AI scrapes the game sites to just give me the answer. You know, sites like IGN and Dutch with popups and ads and other trash… and AI just steps past all that shit and gets me the answer. I’m fine with that. All these sites are just scraping guides and such, I don’t mind if they get stepped on. Like, tell me how to save both the Geth or the Quarians in Mass Effect 3. So if you don’t know, Mass Effect was this kinda mediocre space shooter...

Still just the default one. I like how everyone's answering another question, like OP asked "What do you keep on your keychain besides your keys?" Because none of those things would hold keys. The hole's too small. Now, like, the guys saying carabiner clip, you couldn't put keys on something like that, but you could put one on your keychain so you could clip it to your belt. Useful if you want to keep your keys from scratching something in your pocket, I suppose. Also kee...

Ask Hitler's descendants who have changed their name. In the most extreme circumstances, yes, people will distance themselves from a disgraced name. Hitler, Epstein, and soon to be Trump. Like right now the name is still connected to power (as well as the atrocities) so it still helps those who have it, but once the king is deposed in a few years, it'll be different. Even web handles carry weight. I had a pretty legendary username once. I had *movies* named after (but not about) me. I...

Not sure I ever really get mad about it anymore, but it still bugs me from time to time. I struggled in high school. I had anger issues going in, and I got expelled for punching one teacher and throwing a desk at another. I'm a lot better now (plus, that was like 30 years ago). I went into home schooling for a couple years, and kept getting told that I was ahead of my peers due to how much work I was doing. I came back to school at the end of grade 11 having been advised that I would only n...

Not gay, but this song was always SUPER fun to sing in Rockband. Not sure if it's too on-the-nose or what, but I stand by it as an absolute banger, regardless of who you're attracted to. Electric Six - Gay Bar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XNFokmDKrE Maybe open with that to lighten the mood? Also, it's only about two minutes long (plus an intro). Plus, taking the piss outta Lincoln.

Money. Cigarette ads were justly banned. The Marlboro Man and Joe Camel were iconic brands. The latter was designed specifically to encourage kids to smoke. As a kid, I thought Joe Camel was cool as shit. I didn't want to smoke because of him, but I liked his vibe. (It wasn't lost on me that his head was shaped like a penis; that was an intentional design choice, but he was still a cool dude.) That said, when I turned 18 and I tried smoking, I bought a pack of Camel filters, but that was...

I would get roasted for this in some places, but BTS. I love Not Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DwzBICPhdM ...but most of their songs don't sound like that. In fact, I haven't found any that have. Dynamite is okay, but it's not *their* song. It was written for them, and it's 100% in English. It was made for the western market. Not Today is their song (one of them, I mean) and it's amazing. I've tried to listen to others, and none of them hit quite the same, that...

Anime has entered the chat. Tokyo Ghoul. Amazing first season. Body horror, depression, and zombie stuff all rolled into one. Masterpiece. Season 2 came out ahead of the rest of the books and it sucked. Seasons 3 and 4 adapted the second book series, but they speed ran it and only hit highlights and it was confusing AF. Promised Neverland. Also amazing first season. Thriller with children trying to escape an orphanage that has a dark secret (revealed in first episode). They had like 5-7 season...

Interesting, but nah. They launched it before for influencers to join, and I'm not sure how many did. I haven't heard much about it. It sounds like it's gonna be very corporate run. I have no idea what the political climate will be, but there's a lot of big money behind it, so that's not great. I got kicked off Reddit for saying child abusers should be punished more harshly, which says way more about Reddit than it does about me. I don't trust Digg to be any better.

Game publisher executive. Like the people who run EA, Xbox, PlayStation, etc. All inclusive, I don't think there are any good ones. They're all working to drive prices up, wages down, and creativity? These people don't give two shits about the games. They are not gamers. They see gamers as useful to keep their profits high and that's it. Support indie game developers whenever you can. Stardew Valley is a game I've tried very hard to like, not because I bought it twice, but...

HP used to be called something else. Started with an A. They made the spinoff company for reasons I can't recall. It didn't work out too well. So IIRC they renamed it to HP, while Hewlett-Packard went on to do corporate/government stuff. HP is the one that makes all the laptops, PCs, and printers you know and love to hate. Though, I heard their laptops were good. Still went with Asus for my previous laptop and last Windows laptop. Happy MacBook Air user now, as I always should have been...

I wouldn't say "made my year" but it does bring me joy whenever I look at it. [Floor 796](https://floor796.com/) is a semi-interactive multimedia art project that brings movie, TV, video game, and anime characters together in what I believe is supposed to be one floor of a space station with many rooms. In one such room, an AI or machine is watching all kinds of videos, implying that it is making all these characters from what it sees in our entertainment to populate its otherwise...

I can't imagine a bat using a phone, but I've seen plenty of children laying on a bed with their head hung over the foot or side of the bed (so if you approached, you'd be upside-down to them) and they're holding their tablet upside-down so they can see it. Hurts my neck to even think about it.

ThunderCats and Masters of the Universe (aka He-Man). I think there was a comic book once that did it, but I mean, like a movie. They've done a bunch of Transformers and they did Barbie, as far as modern 80s cartoon/toy adaptations. I think they've tried to do ThunderCats but the rights have been tied up or something. I feel like Masters of the Universe was objectively cooler, but ThunderCats was the one I watched. Looking forward to seeing the new MOTU in theaters this summer.

I wish they either just made straight mint ice cream (less peppermint, and more *creme de menthe*... like Andes mints as opposed to York peppermint patties), or had mint and chocolate swirled or cubed together (like how orange sherbet is packaged with vanilla ice cream sometimes). I would fuck that shit up. Mint chip is one of my favourite flavours, but the chips kinda ruin it. If they're the little flakes or shavings, it's fine, but hard chocolate chips in *ice cream* (which is *frozen...

Hi! I'm one of the few people who enjoy YouTube Shorts. I don't hate the idea of TikTok, I hate the privacy and political implications. I installed it on my Android phone (already a privacy nightmare) and I didn't hate it. Made an account with a burner email. They send 2-3 emails a day. I didn't get into TikTok per se, but I didn't hate using it. I could have done something about the spammy notifications (which I was getting on my iPhone since I used iCloud's Hide My Ema...

Reddit also hates people who criticize child predators. I question calling something Nordic if it’s based in Panama and headquartered in Lithuania. I get it, it’s just branding, like how Texas Pete isn’t made in Texas (at least it’s not made in New York City, I suppose) but maybe call it something else? IIRC Proton _is_ Nordic, but I don’t know if that makes their VPN better or worse. They do have a free ordering and I use it when I’m on public WiFi because I can, but otherwise can’t vouch fo...

If you record your dog talking to (barking at) you and play it back, the dog will think it's another dog barking at them, and they will bark back. Tested with a Jack Russell terrier. They're high strung by nature, but I imagine it'll work with any breed prone to barking into a camera (not all of them will). Of course, the dog has no concept of self. It's *always* another dog. *We* do have a sense of self, and it's often not how others see us. Consider that what you think of...

It’s just elitism by people who collect first editions, and/or have the leisure time to sit and read. You have the same division between readers and audiobook listeners. Like fuck you if you work long hours and you listen to a book in the car when you couldn’t otherwise just read. “Stop being poor and come live a life of leisure.” Way I see it, my phone doesn’t get heavier with 100 books on it. So my books are ebooks, or audiobooks. I like to run both at the same time, especially if there ar...

They should do this everywhere, but the speed should be a bit higher. Like if you’re on a cheap unlimited plan and you get deprioritized, it shouldn’t go lower than 5Mbit. The whales paying for priority can still get 50+Mbit or whatever, but they shouldn’t be given 100+ or 200+ so everyone else gets unusable speeds. Adjust the numbers to make it make more sense.

Looks like the normal font to me. ;) But anyway, they're still only gonna run on Pixel phones (and Motorola soon, apparently). It's one thing to say "my custom firmware does X, Y, Z," but if you can't install it on any Android phone... I think it's time we stop treating Android like some kind of bastion of freedom or privacy. Android maintainers and custom firmware developers have talked about a unified base for over a decade and it still hasn't happened yet. If y...
