My family is exhausting. My kid dropped the coffee maker and "broke" it. My wife said to trash it behind my son's back so he doesn't feel bad about it. I took it instead and tested it out...that plastic dome piece seems to have broken which prevents water from brewing directly into the carafe. However, the carafe lid is such that a "misalignment" is caught by additional openings. So if you're just brewing hot water, there's no issues. Also, the k-cup sid...

Is Linus being an ass, yes. Has he always been an ass, yes. Howvever I honestly don't think bailing on "Linux" as a whole is fair because of a single kernel developer. There are a lot of good people in the Linux community, fighting a good fight. If some dipshit is found in a software project, we find alternatives. But with the kernel, that is more difficult to do. At least with the kernel Linus is 1 of many and not to sound like a shit, but Linus is not a spring chicken. He&...

Two reasons why I did not pre-order the #Commodore #Callback phone: 1) My kid's first semester tuition is due in two weeks: ~$4500!!! 2) They do not have a web browser, and there is no evidence I could install one. Apps do not let me block the ads, spyware, data collection, etc. A browser with uBO or Tor Browser has not been stated to be available. I will not be forced to use apps over a browser.

G-d I HATE systemd/journald Want to see email: journalctl -u postfix You get a bunch of startup/shutdown messages. Want to see ACTUAL email (smtp): journalctl -u postfix@- These people are f*cking insane!! It use to all be /var/log/mail.log - easy as mother-f*cking apple pie!!! Want to see what services you can choose from, use systemctl NOT journalctl: systemctl list-units --type service More and more and more and more I'm leaning towards BSD just to get away from these systemd nitwi...

Found a power supply for an older HP laptop I thought I'd gotten rid of. It's currently running Deb8 and am looking to put a modern OS on it. I'm really hesitant to continue on with Deb13 due to the HW being older and Deb going the way of other Linuxes wrt systemd. I tried Antix on my netbook and it didn't turn out great but I think I'll give it another go with this HP. The biggest concern is the Broadcom wireless. Guess we'll find out.

The "Rapture" is supposed to send good people to heaven and leave the bad here on Earth. Is there an opposite? The "Cleanse"? All the bad go to hell leaving the good folks on Earth? The world needs a good Cleanse. I mean, a full on fucking enema!!!

Full disclosure...I'm getting very tired of everything I run into having obstacles. I know it's a "feature" of retrocomputing, but with 2 jobs and house work...I don't get a lot of time.

#FediHelp: I had #ProtonMail installed via APK (sideloaded) but removed it because of some setting I can't remember which basically had them collecting information. I think you could opt-out, but I found it offensive they even had it in there. (I think it was the "anonymous telemetry" on by default) Anyone have input on #Tutanota? It's client is in F-droid while Proton's is not. So I'm hoping Tuta may be a slightly better option for me. Basically my primary email...

If you're interested, the Procomm Installation Instructions I found with the floppy have been scanned and added to my repo. I've not put them on IA yet though. I want to see if I can get the disk archived first. https://codeberg.org/C64Whiz/retro_scans/src/branch/main/procomm_installation_instructions #RetroComputing #Procomm

#Emacs #OrgMode users: I use :exclude to skip files, BUT is there a way to skip entire directories? The Regex I put in :exclude does not omit directories (prevent recursion). I've also tried making the directories hidden (on Unix by starting the name with a '.') - still doesn't work. Is there way to prevent org-publish from recursing into specific directories, but go ahead in general? I would like to be able to "prune the tree". TIA.

Updated my auto-delete policy to keep those which are liked or boosted. I had it set to keep those I bookmark, but I want to try and keep threads of topics. We'll see how this goes. Maybe I should just periodically go through and delete posts I don't want. (i.e.the "vents"). 🤔
