Reddit’s UX is *awful* though, at least on the website. But I guess most people use the phone apps?

At the time? It was a strict conservative parent thing. *Shrug*. In *hindsight*? Bad call. Early seasons show kids how to be good people. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqx0Lx8gS8Y > *Laughs*. This is a show for children? > Yeah, it's huge. > *Chews*. Surprisingly profound for a narrative about a sponge. But if parents excercised that kind of caution today, and forbade doomscrolling, well, *that would be great*.

Yeah, well, science also says Twitter is an information black hole, and few that *need* to see this will see it. I know it’s microblog memes, but still. It’s surprising to me how much scientist believers post about the state of the world… *on Twitter*. It’d be like going into a Nazi bar in Berlin to warn about the Holocaust, or to criticize Catholicism in the Vatican, and thinking you’re somehow in an open forum. …At least it isn’t a blue checkmart Tweeter, though.

There's a whole lot of interest in locally runnable ML. It was there even before ChatGPT 3.5 started the tech bro hype train, when tinkerers were messing with GPT-J 6B and GAN models. In a nutshell, it's basically Lemmy vs Reddit. Local and community-developed vs toxic and corporate.

Also, for any interested, desktop inference and quantization is my autistic interest. Ask my anything. I don't like Gemma 4 much so far, but if you want to try it anyway: - On Nvidia with no CPU offloading, watch this PR and run it with TabbyAPI: https://github.com/turboderp-org/exllamav3/pull/185 - *With* CPU offloading, watch this PR and the mainline llama.cpp issues they link. Once Gemma4 inference isn't busted, run it in IK or mainline llama.cpp: https://github.com/ikawrakow/ik_ll...

They seem to have held back the "big" locally runnable model. It's also kinda conservative/old, architecture wise: 16-bit weights, sliding window attention interleaved with global attention. No MTP, no QAT (yet), no tightly integrated vision, no hybrid mamba like Qwen/Deepseek, nothing weird like that. It's especially glaring since *we know* Google is using an exotic architecture for Gemini, and has basically infinite resources for experimentation. It also feels kinda "d...

It’s especially bizzare when git repos for “open source corporate alternative” type software uses it over their own repo’s issue trackers and forums. WTF They want the social media engagement, I guess. But *still*. It’s ridiculous how much of a blind spot folks have for it. It also makes giving *or* getting any kind of support a hellish time sink, but that’s almost besides the point…

I mean, I use every alternative I can. Vapoursynth scripts, libraw-based projects, random GitHub repos, DaVinci… But there are some features I just can’t get great support for outside of definitely-not-high-seas Lightroom Classic: - Good lens profiles for weird lenses. - Proper HDR PQ/HLG editing and AVIF/JXL export support. - RAW support for newer cameras, like my little R50V I have yet to try DaVinci’s photo editing mode though. That’s very interesting.

Were they robbed? I bet they were. Say what you will about cash, but some hacker isn’t taking paper bills from across the planet via some technical exploit *way* over my head. With Etherium, the only thing protecting your money from the entire internet is *you*, and your understanding of complicated intricacies... And when lost, no one is coming to help you. They *might* get my credit card, yeah. But that’s either my own dumb fault, or a very rich bank’s problem. *** …It’s great for scammer...

I sympathize with this. As a kid, I’d do the homework, put it in my backpack (thanks to my Mom), yet I’d completely forget to turn it in, despite the whole class getting up to do it, and get a 0%. Turning it in later for ~50% (thanks to sympathetic and confused teachers) saved my butt. …And yes, I’m definitely neurodivergent.
