Working on a mastodon python script using mastodon.py today. It's going to emulate what I think channel.org was doing - for each followed account, check every 10 minutes or so and boost any public posts. Also excluding replies and unlisted posts. I'll also re-evaluate the account's discovery settings and look for common nobot, etc. tags in pinned posts and profile bios before boosting (at least once per run anyway). #MastoDev

Fellow Texans, October 5th is the voter registration deadline. Our beloved leaders have put tons of trickery in place to ensure things go their way, so even if you think you’re registered…check again! https://vrrequest.sos.texas.gov/VoterApplication/ConfirmStatusEN #texaspolitics #Texas #Midterms

So, I maintain the @fedidevs@channel.org account, and was just informed the channels instance is closing down in October. Not sure what I’m going to do, maybe a @surf@flipboard.social feed. But I don’t think I can migrate followers to Surf. It was basically a repeater - channels would boost all posts from accounts I followed. I guess another option is a custom @botkit@hackers.pub bot? Same issue there tho with migration, I think. EDIT: I think another mastodon instance + custom scripted b...

In the final episode of Hard Fork, it was announced that the forkiverse instance will be shutdown at some point in the future. There will be plenty of time given before that happens, but sad to hear it. Also hinted at some future discussions about the end of the “experiment” and a possible migration path. Statement starts at about the one hour 9 minute mark. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hard-fork/id1528594034?i=1000790500686

Taken out of context, but an excellent new meme for Mastodon. 😆

Good morning. Made an egg sandwich to start the day. Lots of errands to run in the morning. Looking forward to the afternoon when I update my office a little bit. I'll be working remotely again, so I feel like mixing things up. Two monitors, less clutter! (If I can figure out how to fit two monitors on this old desk)

Hey y'all. I have some VERY minor graphic design work (logo cleanup) I need done, and I just don't have the will to do it myself. What's a reputable site I can use (like TaskRabbit but for graphic design?) to ask for assistance. This is for a very liberal, LGBTQIA+ friendly church in my hometown. #AskFedi

I already had a list of Fediverse Apps as "Featured Profiles" on my own Profile. This still exists. You can add ANY account you want to the Featured Profiles list. But with collections, you have the consent step - if an account is on a platform or server that doesn't have collections enabled, or the user has disabled them, you can't add it. Featured Profiles is probably going to be retired soon. It's contradictory right now with the new consent rules, don't you think?...

A giraffe is loose in the Texas Hill Country with a bounty of $5,000. I swear to god if this thing shows up in my backyard after having a peacock take residence for six months, I’m moving out, the giraffe can have the place.

My Holos Relay VM has now been retired. This one doesn't sting quite as much, because I already have a holos.social account. I can still fiddle with things that way. From 12 to 5 self-hosted fediverse servers in a week. 🫠 #HomeLab

No more afternoon SNACs for me. I'm down to platforms I contribute or participate in the communities. If I go further, it's going to get tough.

The OpenVibe app is going paid. In the test flight, deep discounts for existing users. I’ve loved trying out a multitude of apps, and understand the need to go paid. Now to choose which of them to keep. A blessed curse to have so many options on the fediverse! #FediApps #MastoApps

I guess a little known fact is that Mastodon has a feature that allows you to schedule your posts. The default app doesn’t have this built in, but there are plenty of third party apps that do. Mona

Update on my Immich trial run. I gave up. Apple Photos is always going to be my primary media library. I don't need another media library on top of it, just a backup. I decided to use `icloudpd` which I was running as Step 1 every week anyway. This just syncs a copy of your image library to a local folder or wherever. That's really all I wanted. Tho this repo is looking for maintenance so... 😭 https://github.com/icloud-photos-downloader/icloud_photos_downloader #Homelab

Updated my test instance to Mastodon v4.5.11 - perhaps one of the fastest updates so far! Looks like the beta version of 4.6 is out, too. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.6.0-beta.1 #MastoAdmin

Hope this helps someone. 7-11 is offering 50 cents off per gallon for the month of June and July - but only on two days per month! You guessed it. June 7 and June 11. You have to create a profile on the 7-11 app. Make note of the zip code and mobile phone number you enter. Then text 711-711 with the code "ALLIN" from the same phone number you attached to your mobile app profile. It will prompt for your zip code. I'm trying this out tomorrow and will let you know i...
