just saw a review of a video game saying "this apparently had a $250,000 budget but it doesn't live up to that hype" uhhh. $250k in game dev is maybe a three person team for one year doing *everything* from programming, level design, art/modelling, testing, etc.

"Aliens" media presents a future where the prime blue collar work requires 4-30 year swings away from home to work for one of the few megacorps. Characters talk about being "in it for the money" and how it sets themselves up much nicer than those who work back home. in this way, the legacy of Giger, O'Bannon, Shushett, and Scott is scifi that eschewed contemporary techno-orientalist paranoia in favour of a much darker idea: a future defined by West Australian values

i love how space travel went from Star Trek: The Next Generation to Deep Space 9 in the space of one (1) lunar mission. Apollo program: boldly going where nobody has been before, everyone is a decorated pilot putting their lives on the line in the most advanced tech. Artemis II: shitters broken, "I have two versions of Outlook and neither of them are working".
