Finally, Ruth Ellis is pardoned. I live a few minutes’ walk from where she lived, and her story has always resonated with me. This is far far too late, but better late than never, I suppose. https://www.theguardian.com/law/2026/jul/08/ruth-ellis-last-woman-hanged-uk-posthumous-conditional-pardon

Just opened the balcony doors. BIG mistake. Quickly closed them again. It’s hotter than the surface of the sun out there.

Just rewatched The Devil Wears Prada in preparation to see The Devil Wears Prada 2 in a little while. It really stands up. Amazing what well-written dialogue and good acting will do.

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Nightfall - Terrific Jacques Tourneur noir that was clearly an influence on Fargo. Features Anne Bancroft in a fashion show, as a bonus. Sour Death Balls - Short of director Jessica Wu’s family and friends eating an apparently disgustingly unpalatable sweet. I have @Nickiquote to thank for me watching this. Manglehorn - Holly Hunter is good in this but it sort of washed over me. Father Mother Sister Brother - So much to enjoy in this triptych about fami...

Took a huge tumble running in the woods, tripped over a knobbly tree root. Blood, bruising. Nothing broken, just a lot of road rash and bruised ribs. But when I got up I noticed a family who came to help were pushing an empty wheelchair, and I was like: “It’s OK, thanks - I’m not that badly injured.” #Running

I rarely watch TV series, but If there are any fans of the TV version of Gomorrah on here, you should know that Gomorrah: Origins is out on NowTV/Sky in the UK. It’s about the childhood of Pietro Savastano. I’m halfway through and it’s enjoyable. Marco d’Amore (Ciro in the original series), directs some episodes, and is creative consultant.

#LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched Close - Beautiful desperately sad film about grief and the pressure to conform. Terrific performances all round. Rachel Gets Married - One of the most annoying films I’ve seen in a long time. Can everybody just shut up?! An Asian Ghost Story - Curious enjoyable speculative doc about haunted wigs, by way of colonialism, Communist China hair-export bans, and made-up Dutch scientists doing stone-tape-type experiments with hair. The Running Man - Lumpen po-f...
