TIL that GitHub has a contract with ICE. I guess it's time to start looking for a place to migrate my repos. https://share.google/nWttIjp2WAUDeyHbv

I started migrating my GitHub repositories to Codeberg, as I'd rather not contribute my code to a company that does business with ICE. https://codeberg.org/antoniusmisfit

The obeying in advance has begun. This "useful idiot with commit access" added a "birthdate" field to systemd, a Microsoft employee merged it, and Lennart Poettering himself blocked a revert... after the useful idiot himself admitted his change is "hilariously pointless" and argued it should be merged anyways.

Another reason why I switched to Codeberg: They don't use your code to train AIs. https://share.google/mtDxxklAxFrITy7jW

Yeah, "kudos to Microsoft" for doing something other operating systems have done for decades. They must feel that Windows has enough spyware and AI junk baked in that they can afford giving users update control. https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2026/04/25/shutdown-restart-microsoft-changes-windows-on-1-billion-pcs/

I *finally* got networking on FreeDOS within qemu under Termux on my Android phone working! All I need to do is install the FDNET package, then add "-nic user,model=ne2k_isa" to the qemu command to launch FreeDOS.

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@almalinux/116501093090997209 This is precisely the strategic advantage gained when a downstream distribution decides not be a "bug-for-bug" binary compatible distribution. If the patched kernels pass muster, I wouldn't be surprised if Red Hat quietly decides to use them. Well done, AlmaLinux developers!

Okay, so while networking works on FreeDOS on my phone now, it's quite slow. Using the Links web browser is okay, but downloads and updates are like molasses. Still better than no networking at all, though.

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@wdormann/116495106231293342 Yikes. I'm no IT security geek, but this sounds to me that the kernel developers need to do a serious review of their vulnerability processes and policies, particularly with major distribution maintainers.

NetHack 5.0.0 released a couple days ago, and I'm happy to report that it *still* supports MS-DOS(and #FreeDOS) quite nicely. https://www.nethack.org/v500/ports/download-msdos.html
