Couldn't find the Pi I was looking for so I've got an 8GB Pi 4 doing nothing but taking audio over AirPlay, which feels a bit like a crime at current prices :blobcat_thisisfine:

I am begging GitHub to stop trying to make AI commit messages a thing. :neocat_googly: If your LLM can summarise *what* the commit does, it can also do that at any point in the future, across the entire repo history. Encourage people to write *why* they wrote the commit instead. That’s the bit we can’t reconstruct later.

Unfortunate timing that it was posted only a few days ago :neocat_cry: but if you have Nebula, Lindsay Ellis’ video about Dolly Parton was a really nice watch about her life: https://nebula.tv/videos/lindsayellis-dolly-parton/

Has anyone figured out a clean solution to this MacBook problem? 1. Can't use clamshell mode easily with Lockdown Mode enabled, as plugging in USB/Thunderbolt devices needs approval on-device 2. Can't leave the lid open and use only external displays since macOS won't let you disable the internal display at all (seriously wtf Apple? :neocat_googly:) Edited for clarity - I just want a clean way to dock it without disabling Lockdown Mode basically :blobcatnotlikethis:

@sjmulder@bsd.network @82mhz@mastodon.bsd.cafe That was with the official Nintendo power adapter which is about ~20 years old now. I’m powering it with one of these now and a much more modern GaN charger so I’ve been meaning to measure again. It’s quite possible it makes a decent difference. https://www.rightsprite.co.uk/shop/wii-usb-c-power-cable/ I’m also on NetBSD 11 rather than 10 now so that might also help!

Neat. Looks like Firefox doesn't bother querying for A records anymore when on an IPv6-only network. Not sure how long that's been the case and need to dig into it but it's nice. Saving some packets.

I've been reading IETF draft-martin-retry-over-ipv6-02 which proposes serving a HTTP 566 error code over IPv4 to indicate that a site is only available over IPv6. I've thought about this before since I've been looking for a way to signal to IPv4-only clients that a site is not "broken", but that their endpoint is missing connectivity. Needing to maintain a whole IPv4 stack to do it means it's good for transition, but maybe less useful longer-term. I don't really...

Me: I should probably actually learn how updates work on NetBSD Also me: Okay, so now I have a full GitHub Actions pipeline that builds the full NetBSD evppc source tree into a bootable SD card image for the Wii, injecting my blog's content and web server as it goes... what now?

I meant to start posting regularly for #BandcampFriday but keep forgetting. This month’s earworm :neocat_bongo_down: : Nekrogoblikon have a collab with Reel Big Fish on their latest album, and it goes unreasonably hard: https://nekrogoblikon.bandcamp.com/track/secret-elephant If you like melodic death metal mixed with ska (who wouldn’t), it might be for you.

Well I gave NixOS a good go for a while and I do like the declarative config. But the latest Bluefin update has got me excited about uBlue’s direction with bootc and all the possibilities that brings for measured boot and system transparency. :neocat_laptop_owo: https://docs.projectbluefin.io/blog/bluefin-spring-2026/#the-future-of-bluefin-and-fedora Plus they seem to be looking for help polishing those parts up. Might have to check it out.

RE: https://social.wjt.je/@wouter/115792262278983195 Huge thanks to @masterX244 and friend who tried very hard to resurrect my broken first-gen Framework mainboard yesterday! :neocat_cool_fingerguns: Sadly we couldn’t get it to come back to life, but it was great fun trying, and definitely makes me want to do more hardware level stuff. #39c3

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@alexhaydock/116312435805560294 It occurs to me that if Bazzite inherits this config unmodified, then my Steam Deck should work on the IPv6-only VLAN just in time for No NAT November this year. I might try and redo my attempt this year and see how much has changed since Nov 2024.

The UK NCSC are releasing some kind of inline display connection widget thing to “secure” HDMI and DisplayPort connections. Really struggling to understand the threat model on this one… it seems so badly explained in the post. Are they trying to suggest channels like EDID or HDMI CEC are actual threat vectors? Or maybe it’s an attempt to defend against people plugging in inline capture cards or something? (Can’t really see how that’d work anyway) :neocat_googly: https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/news/...

Starting to get worried that when the AI bubble pops, all these companies left holding empty AI DCs will try and pivot hard to the “stream your PC from the cloud” model and consumer IT will just start to disappear. https://www.reuters.com/technology/amazon-data-center-unit-acquires-george-washington-university-virginia-campus-2026-03-02/ Is this just an excuse to buy a 48U rack for my garage and start filling it with hardware? … Mayyyyybe :neocat_evil_3c: But it also doesn’t seem that farfetc...
