PocketOS’s disastrous problems with Claude are being wrongly framed. The company lost most of its live data, and a lot of backups. A lot of the reports blame the AI agent Claude for the loss. Blaming the AI agent is missing the point, utterly. The actual reason for the loss is incompetency on the part of whomever allowed any automated system the ability to delete such data in the first place, without the intervention of multiple humans. The fact that it was an AI agent is almost irrelevant, it...

A genuine entry in today’s ToDo list: - Change G string There’s an old Blues trick, by replacing the G string (standard tuning) with a B string tuned up to G, it allows easier pitch bending as the B string is thinner and more elastic. #guitarists

Ordered a 1TB USB disk drive for someone last week. Person reported yesterday that they were thrilled to receive a princess costume for a 4 year old. It’s not even Apple Time Machine compatible. Part of me wants to go through the customer support experience trying to get backups to work on the item actually delivered.

Got a ticket to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at Montreux this summer. Woohoo. I’m an arms length fan of him, if that’s a thing. I have huge respect for him, but should really listen to more of his work. His collaborations with Warren Ellis have been great, dark, clanky rock. #livemusic #nickcavethebadseeds #montreux_jazz_festival_2026

Put aside all the discussions of should we be doing this, are there better goals to aim for, etc, can we just stop for a moment and acknowledge that four people are on their way to our moon in a spaceship? All the collaboration and shared effort that went into making it possible, just that should be enough to make us pause and think what else could we achieve? Some people want to watch the world burn, and the rest of us was to light the touch papers under a million constructive, helpful, meani...

I remember a time when it made sense to delete trailing spaces in documents to conserve disk space. A colleague of my mother used to advise this, ~1982. I can still remember the smell of the office from when I used to visit, toner, IT equipment. It smelled exciting, professional.
