I've been pretty busy with real-world bird work lately, but here's a quick update until I can post more. Great stuff going on! ^v^ https://www.patreon.com/posts/yes-im-still-160250423?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link

When I die, please feed my body to avian scavengers. Carry my protein into the air and excrete me all over some rich prick's exclusive beach or mountain estate. That's the only kind of "rising from the dead" I will wholeheartedly condone. #coffeethoughts #showerthoughts

I saw this at a field camp last week and totally thought it was a pipe or vape of some kind. Just a very questionable-looking duck call lol.

Just discovering OpenStreetMap. This is a cycle-centric view of Milwaukee. This is the world that car drivers (as I was) totally miss knowing about: lots of special, quiet, non-congested routes available that get you places just as fast with less stress. #cycling #milwaukee #openstreetmap

Is there an official -phobia word for describing someone in mortal terror of allowing Microsoft to update their installation of Windows 11? Could be renovatiophobia if we stick with Latin. Or fenestrasundeciumphobia if you want specificity. I think I prefer microslopophobia or just slopiphobia.

On my way home a few days early from Canada, where I implanted trackers in female canvasback ducks for biologists to follow their movements. 30 surgeries in 3 days. Went well and the area was so incredibly bird-diverse! #avian #Conservation #birdsofmastodon

I made some needed upgrades to the Cooputer (runs heating, cooling, & door on chicken coop) over the weekend. It looks up local civil twilight times from NOAA API instead of calculating, which proved inaccurate. Also added more commands, more feedback on the web interface, & a reboot option. #chickens #diy #microcontroller

A hearty thank-you to my friend @barnibu for graciously donating hours of help on Saturday with my coding project. It was a significant stretch of my mental muscles & I couldn't have done it without him.

Reminded of this this morning. So many things this could be applied to these days.

Man, the pork-barrelling good-ol-boy contracting that went on for this during the 2003 Iraq war is so unsurprising, & such an example of how little rich, politically-connected bastards care for us poorer, lower forms of life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWLcmq_DiaA

Why does accessing a hotel reward club have to be treated like signing into the Pentagon? Is 2FA really that necessary for booking a room when you don't plan to save CC info on their stupid site? smh

In the time it took to go through Hyatt's goofy 2FA-email system, IFC rooms sold out. So much for getting a room if you're working/busy right when the block opens I guess. #indyfurCon

I had factual bird work this week, preparing for surgeries on canvasback ducks next week. But I did some more writing last night. I'm on final few chapters of The Bonding & wish I could talk about it, but you'll just have to wait a bit longer. The Bonding's Eve Ball is turning out to be lots of fun!

Barbi’s Seabeck Cafe, my fav old work spot in Kitsap, is running again after years of being closed. Was writing on The Bonding, listening to purple martens, & watching eagles & ospreys fish this morning. #birdsofmastodon #writer #theavianage #workFromAnywhere #washington

Yay! Got accepted to Furry Migration Dealers Den this year. See you there September 11-13. I also applied for a party pad, but regardless, we'll host some bird flocking somewhere. I'm also applying to do some bird panels too. (my friend in the picture is Eeping Eagle) #birdsofmastodon #furry #convention #minnesota

TLDR: As soon as you hear of secondary person-to-person transmission, beyond the superspreader, wear your masks and buckle up. The Orange Dicktator & Captain Brainworm already gutted the CDC brain trust leaving us with the responsiveness of a dead earthworm, should this turn into a pandemic. https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/misc-emerging-topics/osterholm-hantavirus-we-re-missing-main-point-outbreak

Wow nice news that there’s a millionaire tax in the works in Washington. Rich pricks are fighting it (on grounds of they’ll want to lower the earnings threshold someday) but that’s just forcing it to a popular vote, & they’ll get reckt on that lol.

I make outlines for chapters and scenes in my books, but then end up going off script a lot. I feel like I spend a lot of time updating them to the point of wondering if it's really helping. Anybody else have the dilemma or is it just me? OTOH, my wiki helps TONS to document worldbuilding details.

Making great progress on The Bonding. Several threads coming together now and I'm sliding towards the climax of the book. Lots of glorious bird action. I'll be pleased to share it soon! #indie #writer #birdsofmastodon

Flowers last weekend and tomatoes & peppers today. Feels nice to grow things and I love homegrown tomatoes. I might make a good hobbit if I wasn’t so tall. #gardening #wisconsin
