RE: https://mastodon.green/@gerrymcgovern/116900154465203316 Weirdly, this was also the case in Sweden even into the early 20th century. Voting power was proportional to wealth, and even corporations got to vote based on how much capital they controlled. In a few districts, one person or company controlled more than half of all the votes due to wealth concentration. https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-69864-4_6

Whoa this is like a billion dollar sodium ion battery in Abu Dhabi. At $40/kWh. To back up 5.2GW of PV. I remember when $100/kWh was the rallying cry (like, last year?) https://electrek.co/2026/07/10/byd-masdar-11-gwh-rtc-storage-abu-dhabi/

Te first US woman to row solo, unsupported from the US mainland to Hawai'i. Beat the fastest man's time by 9 days. Nearly cut the previous women's record in half. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/05/us/rowing-record-pacific-kelsey-pfendler.html?unlocked_article_code=1.wFA.hVSD.-Wfh9S5Ljw4L&smid=url-share

One thing I liked about QTs is it was easy to share things with attribution. Here I find myself copy-and-pasting with no reference to original sources much more frequently.

It's bizarre that the US is blocking shipments of fuel, but not solar panels. It's almost like they really don't believe PV works. https://www.cnn.com/2026/05/13/climate/cuba-solar-us-oil-blockade-trump-china

Just wild how like half of the stories about oil right now don't even mention the electrification of transportation.

Halfway between the Dieselgate scandal in the US and building cars in Nazi Germany with forced labor, Volkswagen was operating a Brazilian beef ranch clearing the Amazon with slaves? https://reporterbrasil.org.br/2025/05/why-is-volkswagen-accused-of-slave-labor-in-the-amazon/

Very weird how the guy dismantling the US government is named after the evil megacorp antagonist from The Boys which is itself a play on Ozymandias' company Veidt Enterprises in The Watchmen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Vought https://the-boys.fandom.com/wiki/Vought_International https://watchmen.fandom.com/wiki/Veidt_Enterprises

Interesting series of posts on the utility political, regulatory, & business model landscape, how & why they're failing to adapt, and how changing economics of DERs interact with the system. Nothing says "mid-21st century" to me like cackling maniacally at 2am while simultaneously wrangling multiple coding agents working on open energy data pipelines, listening to thumping techno, and doomscrolling the Iran war.

Amazing chart gallery, looking at the trajectory of transportation electrification across many different countries. It's Happening. This is the last oil crisis. No country in its right mind will allow itself to be vulnerable to this kind of insanity again. https://leraffl.github.io/LeRaffl-Gallery/ #DataViz #EV #Electrification #Energy

It would be interesting (derogatory) if it turned out that Mossad is tracking and assassinating the Iranian leadership by hacking into their own repressive surveillance infrastructure.
