They’re using domain-specific LLMs to compress narrow-domain data. Their text compression LLM was trained on, and then tested on, legal text and medical text. There’s no reason one couldn’t apply the domain-specific-compressor idea to a conventional lossless text compressor, essentially moving much of the dictionary from the compressed file to the program itself. I don’t know if anyone’s tried that. I’d like to know how that compares.

The "old" clock app already had a Pomodoro feature (which I did not realize existed until recently) and you can argue this is a logical progression, I guess.

I spent a couple of years doing phone support (for a Windows program, in the internet-by-modem days), and we had a paper manual that we spent a lot of effort on. I'm not sure it helped too many people. We didn't have a way of measuring, though. We had no idea how many people were blundering through things on their own, how many people set things up on their own with the manual's help, or how many people were chucking the whole product in a closet and forgetting about it. Sure, so...

30W is 0.04 HP. That engine is just way, way bigger than you'd use if you were designing something like this from scratch, I think. Like putting a truck engine in a go kart, and being surprised that uses a lot of gas.

  > "This allows us to integrate freeform electronics onto a broad range of substrates, including biopolymers and living biological tissue, all within a desktop-size printer without the needs of complex facilities or labor-intensive manual processes." Think of the conspiracy theories we got for the COVID vaccine. Now, think bigger.

**"In The Midst Of Unpopular, Catastrophic War Of Choice, Trump Allies Call For Draft"** would perhaps not be a totally neutral headline but I feel like it would be more honest, more forthright.

Why weren't they going after this 10 years ago? I think I've just gotten into the habit of "open in new tab" because I know there's a good chance "back" won't do what I want. Frankly, here on PieFed, "back" to a feed isn't very useful, because you'll just land _somewhere_ in the feed, not back to the place where you started. "Open in new tab" solves that as well, for certain very small values of "solves."

Patents are a (relatively speaking) newfangled trick to turn ideas into legal "capital." In the same way that a corporation "is" a person. The _backbone_ of capitalism? I'm not following that.
