Hello! We are a small independent bookshop in Stow, in the Scottish Borders. We are no longer using Twitter, for obvious reasons, but could use some new followers on Mastodon and other social media channels - where our presence is smaller than on Twitter. Please help / share this is you can! Thank you.

June is LGBTQI+ Pride month. With the politics of hate on the rise, there’s never been a more important time to act together. We will be joining in with Pride in the Borders in August in Galashiels. Why does Pride matter? Have a look at some of the comments in FB on their page. Hate has no place in a decent society. Pride is a protest. Join us and take a stand.

You asked and we have listened! We get quite a few comments like "We passed by when you're closed" and appreciate that not everyone can visit us during the day. So, as a result, we're going old skool (or back to 2023, when we opened!) and we're bringing back later opening on Thursdays. From this week, we're opening from 13.30-19.00 on Thursdays and look forward to welcoming you then! And remember, The Reading Room is open in Melrose seven day...

Our Poetry Circle met last week and chose this poem, Memorial Berlin 13.10.22, as our poem of the month, a poignant reminder to remember our history and not repeat the same mistakes of our collective past. We have a wide range of poetry books in stock, here and at The Reading Room - our bookshop in Melrose - and anyone 18+ is welcome to join our free poetry and reading groups. See our website for details.

We are chuffed to bits to be welcoming Anna Deacon back to Stow for a very special event on Tuesday 22nd September. Anna's latest book is a beautifully illustrated exploration of how we can reconnect with the natural world, for our own well-being and, perhaps, with a more respectful look at Scotland's environment. A must-see event - book through Eventbrite. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-wild-fix-an-evening-with-anna-deacon-tickets-1997859671057

It’s #WorldEarthDay today and we are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Green Tourism Bronze Award! This is our first attempt and we hope this little acorn will bloom into a silver and then gold award one day! These awards show our commitment to sustainability support our Booksellers Association Green Bookselling Pledge! Hello! Three years ago on this date we opened The Wedale Bookshop, fulfilling one of my lifelong dreams. Now, we have two bookshops in the beautiful Borders and I cannot believe how lucky I am. There have been bad times and a very many good times. Here we are, then, a bookselling team of four and soon to be more. HUGE thanks to our regular customers and book groups folks - we appreciate every single one of you. Here’s to the next three years. Cheers. Gx It’s coffee, by the way.

We are very excited to be welcoming Joe Luc Barnes to Stow on 5th May, to celebrate his book, "Farewell to Russia". Snow, concrete, the KGB: that’s the cliché of the Soviet Union. But its collapse in 1991 sparked a story at once messier and more compelling than any stereotype. Thirty-five years on, Moscow may brim with champagne bars and blacked-out Mercedes – but what became of the other fourteen states that emerged from the ashes? Free event. Tickets through Eventbrite
