@sjn@chaos.social AI is like a screw-top wine bottle. It doesn’t have to mean low quality, but it certainly means the producer was cutting costs in a way that’s associated with lower quality.

Saw a bumper sticker: “Vintage Tesla: Pre-Madness edition”. That inspired me to go check: #Tesla’s stock price is down 20% this year. No crash, just a long, slow decline. When gas prices are shooting up and an EV maker isn’t profiting, it gives me an optimistic feeling.

@liztai@hachyderm.io You don’t have to defend yourself if nobody attacking you, so this would be true anyway. It’s how a diplomat says they’re giving you nothing.

TIL about Smigus Dyngus Day. Usually, being raised Presbyterian means I missed out on the fun, but this time I’m going to say it saved a lot of hassle. (N.B.: the Wikipedia page omits to mention that none of the people involved is sober.)

An Adventure: A boy about 6yo and his 4yo sister come up to me in the grocery store. “We can’t find our mother!” “What does she look like?” I asked. The question baffled them. She looks like Mom. Eventually, “Um, she’s wearing a head scarf…” Well, let’s walk up to the front of the store. Everyone there was a head shorter than I, so it was easy to see on the other side of the store a small woman with a bright scarf, matching skin color, and a frantic expression. I waved to get her attention and...

RE: https://wandering.shop/@Violinknitter/116318587697171792 #Tolkien said the reason he cordially detested allegory was “the purposed domination of the author.” The most important lesson to take away from #LotR is that dominating other people is bad! It’s fine, and even desirable, to look for connections between Middle-earth and our primary world, but the author doesn’t force it on you, so it’s not allegory.
