I tried that and gave up after a year because it was getting old running to the library every few months to print that one page I needed for something odd that came up. Granted it's been one of those years where so much life insanity happens that you have to work through. But now I'm happy that I can also print coloring pages and anything else I feel like printing on top of insurance documents that the DMV needs me to mail and passport applications and new tax forms for fun new tax chall...

My very first desk job was an outsourced support role where 99% of calls we simply found the answer in the user manual and provided that to them. The other 1% was usually something isoteric we'd forward on to someone within the company. The amount of callers who'd say "I've read the user manual cover to cover and I just can't figure out how to..." And I'd just try to page 12 on the PDF and read them the instructions word for word At the scale of HP, I can see the...

Sounds to me like a legal workaround is to have an invite-only barbecue then have a stack of invites and write them out as people come up. "Its not public, its invite only! Why yes I'd be happy to give you an invitation!"

I had a couple of interactions like this while in Italy recently. I'd not even opened my mouth and the person responds in English. I specifically selected clothes that don't have any text on them, but I strongly suspect it's because I'm white as fuck and look as Midwestern American as one can. I didn't have any trouble though, most of the Italians I spoke with seemed happy that I've been trying to learn their language and were happy to talk in a mix of Italian and Englis...

The average rent in the US is about 1600/mo, and the median household income is 83k/yr. Obviously these averages/medians will change dramatically when looking at individual places, but if you live in a major coastal city that’s infamous for being unaffordable you will absolutely need roommates to afford rent. However there’s also plenty of major cities which are not unaffordable so while you can have your eyes pop out of your sockets looking at LA, SF, NYC, etc. Toledo OH or Milwaukee WI are j...

Y'know what, I honestly haven't looked at what the PCIe lane layout is like on newer chipsets. Maybe it's gotten better since I last really paid attention like 5+ years ago. I remember in early-mid AM4 there was a lot of grumbling about how there's only 20 PCIe 3 lanes followed by early PCIe 4 platforms that would give only 16-20 lanes with another 8 or so PCI 3 lanes. I also didn't really pay much attention to AMD before AM4 given how far behind Intel they were. But I could...
