The "3. Probabilistically Automated" label has been appointed throughout the GNOME/ namespace on GNOME GitLab, for labeling tickets/issues and merge requests that use artificial "intelligence". This new label describes itself as the following: Major or total reliance on "AI" / LLMs / stochastic parrots to generate code or bug reports. Usually accompanied by a lack of proper testing, and writing reports or finalizing patches based on plausibly sounding intended beha...

Hi, for those relying on a screen reader, we would like to have your feedback on what we could do to make GNOME Calendar friendly for you. If you would like to share some feedback on anything regarding the screen reader experience with GNOME Calendar, please consider reading and commenting on the following issue on GitLab: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-calendar/-/work_items/1634 Or this thread on Discourse: https://discourse.gnome.org/t/figure-out-what-to-display-expose-to-screen-reader-...

A month ago, a friend suggested to get a double sized bed in case I end up sharing the bed with someone. I told them that this is a problem for myself in the future because I won't be sharing a bed with someone anytime soon. I should have listened to their advice

Actually fucked up thing to say from a Fedora EPEL maintainer: > Please, get off Reddit and book a therapy appointment. You need it. https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1v3dehg/comment/oz79oq1/ @fedora@fosstodon.org are you okay with this kind of behavior? Edit: sorry, I got upset and pinged the account out of spite. I'll just report that behavior to the committee

New article, although this one is a controversial one based on the situation of GNOME Calendar and Linux Mint. I read a little bit of My Accessibility Stack and the future on Wayland, but I personally couldn't continue. I got pissed specifically here: > And this response from a GTK maintainer in a thread discussing Talon (which is not mentioned by name) who refuses to engage with the discussion, refers to us as “accessibility maximalists”, and refers to resources that are not topical to the point at hand (again, this is about input, not output). The reason I'm really pissed about is because...

In GNOME Calendar, someone started submitting large merge requests that were clearly generated by artificial intelligence: - https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-calendar/-/merge_requests/785 - https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-calendar/-/merge_requests/786 - https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-calendar/-/merge_requests/787 We introduced the label "Probabilistically Automated" to tag slop. It reads the following: "Major or total reliance on artificial “intelligence” to gene...

One thing I never expected about software development is how different contributing to an external free and open-source (FOSS) project is from maintaining a FOSS project. I thought they were similar, but they're not. I get exhausted very quickly from constantly reading and reviewing code, as there are still many things I don't know about programming. Having to learn while I'm reviewing hits like a truck at 69420 KM/h. It also doesn't help that I feel pressured not to keep contri...

6 months ago, @paulbiggar posted on Zed's GitHub Discussions forums about the company, Zed Industries, taking money from Sequoia Capital, which is partnered with Shaun Maguire, who has been actively supporting genocide in Palestine. During these six months, Zed Industries has been ominously quiet about the post; however, until a few days ago, one of the maintainers of Zed made an official comment, which I quote: "Thanks for reaching out. We want to better support our community, and the...

If you are not yet convinced that Fedora Flatpaks is a hostile 'alternative' to Flathub, here's a good one for you: An indeterminate amount of their packages are, in fact, directly based on existing manifests from Flathub. Not by manually inspecting code themselves; rather, by running a script which goes through Flathub's APIs and parses the respective apps' manifest to generate manifests for Fedora Flatpaks: https://pagure.io/flatpak-module-tools/blob/859e5bbb655a79e3b2b9ad...

@rapsneezy people from Iran are prevented because the US has sanctioned Iran as a whole and the GNOME Foundation is a US-based organization. If the GNOME Foundation were to do transactions with people living in Iran, they'd put themselves at risk. All this to say, fuck the US While financial affairs are messy, one thing's for sure is that the community does not tolerate Zionism (To give some context on the following screenshots, someone made a complaint about someone publicly stating t...

Hey, I've been under distress lately due to personal circumstances that are outside my control. I can't find a permanent job that allows me to function, I'm not eligible for government benefits, my grant proposals got rejected, paid internships are quite difficult to find. Essentially, I have no stable monthly income that allows me to sustain myself. Nowadays, I work mostly on accessibility throughout GNOME as a volunteer, improving the experience of people with disabilities. I help...
