I haven’t read all of the album stories yet, but will. I was only 6 and not yet listening to radio. My dad loved his Tijuana Brass album, and Mum played The Executives Now album which included covers of the Mamas & the Papas. (Not sure what year this came out.) My brother had probably started collecting Beatles singles, using money earned by collecting beer bottles for the deposit refund. All of this music was still around when I really started taking notice, & influencing the performe...

The fact is that this woman and her followers have nothing to offer. No expertise, no competence, no solutions. Yes, they make it easier for people to have a whinge, and offer scapegoats to blame, but then what? This is what Trump did. He offered to hear people’s complaints, to justify their concerns, to allow them to blame & punish “others”, and little more. He didn’t listen, and he failed on all of his promises because he lacked the skills, knowledge & capable personnel needed to d...

“Donald Trump is right. I never thought I’d say that.” Alan Fels on Australia’s slave labour situation. I knew we had an issue with agricultural workers and labour hire companies, because it’s been reported in before. But, I suspect like many people, I’d somehow assumed that being reported meant that it had been addressed, because surely, in Australia, we wouldn’t let that sort of thing prevail on a significant scale? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08-04/australias-hidden-modern-slave-lab...

People who think or have been told that they might be ADHD, but are in denial… Recognising that one is ADHD brings lots of positives. It seems to me that many who resist confronting this reality are harbouring ableism & stigma (even as they profess support for ADHDers) & failing to recognise that acknowledging themselves as an ADHDer brings so many benefits. It means that you can stop berating yourself for “failures” and character “flaws”, and instead accept yourself (&amp...

Terrible photo, due to reflection, but each of the old school barber’s chairs is facing a mirror above an antique item, such as an old dressing table, a piano and a singer treadle sewing machine. The floor is black and white check “linoleum”. Taken in St Kilda.

Been watching Silo on Apple. Will have to stop. It’s well done, but the suspense, nastiness, & claustrophobia are getting too much. Need something lighter & less stressful. Might watch a Die Hard…

People like this need to be found and held accountable. I am very wary of giving money to anything other than a mainstream charity (but am fussy then too), because of worries about scams like this. It’s so wrong, because the people who genuinely need help aren’t getting it, & it causes distrust & suspicion of the people who need help most. But not of pretty white girls. Apologies to genuinely decent pretty white girls. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07-05/lily-jay-foundatio...

Today Oldest & I drove over to Barwon Park Mansion, a National Trust property on the other side of Geelong near Winchelsea. (The names “Geelong” & “Barwon” are place names from the local Wadawurrung people.) It’s a bluestone mansion, decorated at the front by ornate ironwork. Finished in 1871, it’s one of few grand homes of that time anywhere to not have undergone any significant renovations. The first floor was in very poor repair when the National Trust took over the property...

@randahl@mastodon.social This is what governments need to do, not ineffective bans on children, which fail to deal with unmediated dangerous content, and isolate children who have managed to make positive connections on social media.

After failing to stop the war in Ukraine, & in a desperate attempt to distract everyone from the Epstein Files, Trump decided to start & then stop a war in the Middle East. Of course, he had absolutely no way of knowing that Iran could retaliate so effectively, crippling international supplies of oil & fertiliser, or that the war would spread, or that stopping a war he’d started could be so hard… but hey, at least we’ve forgotten the Epstein files. (And the people affecte...

I asked a friend to send me photos of flowers, but she also set me this, so… I’m using some paper I bought a couple weeks ago, in a very busy art supplies shop where I just grabbed it & got out, & it’s not very good at all…, but I’m still pretty happy with this, especially the apple. Autistic people are often criticised for our “lack of empathy”. This isn’t just because most people don’t understand how autistic people express & demonstrate empathy. It’s also about projection. When people have a fault or a flaw, they often find it easier to recognise in others than themselves. Sometimes a reluctance to confront that fault or flaw results in them projecting it into others more than ever. The philandering husband who suspects his wife of infidelity. The guy who disapp...

Argh… When a friend of mine assumed the main responsibility of caring for her aged parents, I became uncomfortably aware of the fact that I wasn’t having to perform this role. My friend is the youngest of 4 children, but never had children if her own, so I guess it made sense that she took on the main role of… administrator & advocate really. And while I’ve grown very close to partner’s parents, the fact that we live in another country… Of course he has guilt issues, which means that...

I forgot to fast for my blood test on Saturday, so am doing it today at a doctor’s surgery with a pathology nurse. I haven’t been here before & was pleasantly surprised to see masks being worn by everyone… except the ambos taking a patient to hospital. 🤯 Only blueys (kn95 for me), & I can’t see any HEPA filters, but still at least an acknowledgment that mitigation matters.,
