@mattiem@mastodon.social – "Apple is supporting a regime that is not just destroying democracy in the United States, but is actively working to do so globally. Not to mention attacking my own country of Canada." What specific things do you see happening that amount to this? Presumably it's more than one name on a map…?

I shared this bill two weeks ago, and I'm staggered that no one else I've seen on Mastodon, or any other place online, has even mentioned it. It does indeed look like the law would require every American child and adult, parent or not, to verify their age with a third party just to power up and use their own computer or phone in everyday fashion. #AgeVerification #Apple #Microsoft #Google

Apple's improved version of "Personal Voice" (announced in 2025 as coming "later this year") seems to have arrived in iOS and macOS 26.4, supported only on some newer devices. I tried it yesterday and it's great – only 10 phrases instead of 150, and almost no processing time before it's usable on device. Weirdly, it's apparently not in the 26.4 release notes, and no one I've found online (not even MacRumors!) has even...

Is "eBay Live," like… the result of an unrelated company accidentally swerving on the freeway and head-on colliding with eBay? Is there some sort of team on the way to check for casualties and assess how to start fixing stuff? #eBay

RE: https://mastodon.social/@simonbs/116472347055299139 Probably the clearest illustration I've encountered of the line between when it's a tool and when you're a tool, so to speak.

For people in the USA: A bill that would require age verification nationwide, seemingly for all adults and children, for all operating systems, according to currently-unspecified rules determined by the FTC. (Please note the "give feedback on this bill" link with guidance to contact your state's members of Congress.) https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/8250

@marioguzman – Hi, Mario: I just wanted to say I love the Music Widget app, particularly with the dark look. It's practically never been closed since I found it a month ago.

I dreamt last night that I woke up to a BBC headline stating that Trump's administration just had a successful first day of implementing and running the cohesive health care system for Americans on which he campaigned in 2016. (Laughs) Phenomenal. #Trump #USPol

Heck. I just discovered JavaScript `EventSource` type this week for receiving lightweight events from a server over time using a single HTTP request. This has been well-supported for over five years? It's so easy to use, even on the server, that it barely feels like a Web standard. #Web
