You can’t have a Rapture over an index. If you strip out the fake deity, what you are left with isn’t a sci-fi apocalypse. It’s a labour dispute. It’s an antitrust case. And that is so profoundly unsexy that they will spend billions of dollars to keep you talking about AI. https://medium.com/science-fiction/chatgpt-is-made-of-people-13df757f12d1

#quoteoftheday “Edmund’s gaze skimmed lower, to wet cloth hugging the Dervish’s backside in ways that would have a saint down on his knees, either doing penance or doing the Dervish, depending on the specific holy order involved. “My eyes are up here,” the Dervish said, amused, “but who wants to look at my eyes? My ass is much better.” — Daggerbound by T. Kingfisher.

@jdnicoll He couldn’t have even landed one person on Mars with StarShip, but he can do that on the Moon (if he can get a lunar lander designed and built on a reasonable schedule) using Falcon Heavy. A self-sustaining colony? Well, that’s a whole ‘nother 55 gallon drum of snakes.

I just realized (and this will definitively mark my age and my slowness of wit) that the frog dancers at the ICE protests and the No Kings march are in fact cosplaying the character Torve the Trog from Alexei Panshin’s Anthony Villiers’ series. Is anyone else still waiting for the publication of the fourth book, The Universal Pantograph?
