Hey @zsolt I’m really curious how you created that “open in marsedit” hyperlink on your site. I’m guessing it’s a url scheme of sorts?

There's no setting on the iOS version of Outlook to have it open in Calendar view by default. There are many times I’d rather not have to deal with or get distracted by my email and just want to check my schedule. Here’s an #ios shortcut to do that for #Outlook. https://www.jimwillis.org/2025/01/29/open-outlook-for-ios-to-calendar/ #calendar #shortcuts

today’s lunchtime project: spinning up a second #navidrome instance to host my classical music collection. Added some nginx proxy forwarding and a host entry in my raspberry pi and now I’ve got music.$myhomedomain and classical_music.$myhomedomain up and running. Satisfying.

@jakesmolka if you’re *only* accessing that reverse proxy while tailscale is running, assuming you have a domain name/DNS control, just create an entry pointing to the tailscale IP of that reverse proxy. I do that and then also run pi-hole as an “internal” dns with hostnames that point to the non-tailscale IP of the proxy server. No idea if this is the right way to do it but it’s been working great for me and I have no ports opened to the outside world on my router.

Streaks are meaningless to me, perhaps I have too many interests ? There’s no way I could get to everything important to me every day. Am I the only one who feels like the “don’t break your streak” isn’t really all that motivating? I journal most days. I exercise most days. I practice music most days. Whether I do them everyday or not seems irrelevant. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/31/well/mind/habit-building-streak.html #productivity #habits #journaling #music #fitness

There are likely better ways to do this, but here’s a quick one-liner to tail -f your home assistant logs if you’ve got HA running in a docker container on a linux box: docker ps -a | grep homeassistant | cut -d ' ' -f1 | xargs docker logs -f then I create an alias for this in my .bashrc alias log_ha='docker ps -a | grep homeas | awk "{print \$1}" | xargs docker logs -f' #selfhosted #HomeAssistant

Short writeup on my first multi-surface ride on the Rivendell Joe Appaloosa — thought I was just going for a quick ride around town but then just kept on pedaling. https://www.jimwillis.org/2025/02/09/ride-report-2025-02-08/ #rivendellbicycleworks #cycling

Sometimes Readwise resurfaces exactly the right quote from 6 years ago that you need today: “Convenience is all destination and no journey. But climbing a mountain is different from taking the tram to the top, even if you end up at the same place.” From this 2018 piece by Tim Wu in the nytimes: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/16/opinion/sunday/tyranny-convenience.html #NYTimes #readwise

Wow, where has watchdog been for all of my (hosting HA on an occasionally freezing Intel NUC) life! Curious to see if this solves my problem. #selfhosted #HomeAssistant
