  The music in Balan Wonderworld mostly fucking sucks, it sounds like it was written by someone who's good at their job but did not give one shit about the game, or maybe had like one single week to write the whole thing. There's like one or two tracks that aren't pure cliché bollocks.

  kinda wish I could have another "this will become my life now" experience like what young people have. I've seen and heard enough stuff that everything exists in relation now, nothing can be new enough to blow the doors open like that anymore.

  read up a tiny bit on classical composition and counterpoint and fugues and all that, and, I've had something like this theory before without that knowledge, but I think this why the older video game composers are so good, especially those who started in the 8-bit era: hardware limitations forced them to get good at counterpoint (also here's a little practice thing I just did)
