Someone did a fullblown desktop with overlapping windows and the works, for a lowly 48K #SinclairSpectrum. I want to see this in action! #retrocomputing #ZXDesk https://github.com/mindbox77/zxdesk?fbclid=IwdGRleAUc28lwZG9mBWZkaWQWUOxDw3q_uNiRI6IAB5I7nf9gwR5iXmV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkCjY2Mjg1NjgzNzkAAR7BEjjPf_BsOEZViNTnKSt5hYMXpeo3VwAAy1S27CQpRDT1JbhsrgfpF8nQ5g_aem_18ApcauwkdnIlLKUdkwH_Q

Risky gambit: bought new #iPhone 17 mere days before they launch new phones. But apparently they don't plan to launch an 18 now (just 18 Pro) and the 17 has some excellent offers... (paid €735 for it here in Finland). Will I regret it? Huge compared to my old 13 Mini :( Not happy about that. And setup so far been buggy as hell.

Massive respect for the guys who, immediately upon receiving their new #Jolla phone, tore it down for an #Ifixit article. They were doing this at the actual launch event on the balcony with dozens watching! https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Jolla+Phone+(2026)+Teardown/223943

One of the nice features of #Jolla's #Sailfish is how they've done context menus. Hold on an item and a menu appears, but you don't need to lift your finger to aim at the menu. Just hold and slide up and down to select the item from the menu. See example below. #UX

WTF, this is absolutely shameful corruption. The US’s star player gets a match ban (red card), and Trump gives #FIFA a call and as if by magic the ban is ‘suspended’. Unlike for the numerous other red cards in this #WorldCup. What utter nonsense! The US has now become the team I least support. It’s a disgrace and cannot be left without consequences. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cewqq5q8v41o

Test drove the #PV5 today and #Kia really has nailed it with this 5-seater van bodied #EV. The outer dimensions are almost identical to a Tesla M3, but there is vast amounts of space inside. Everyone can sit comfortably, loads of room for animals, hauling firewood, whatever. The interior is suitably utilitarian, which I like, and visibility is superb (apart from A pillars). I also dig the cyber exterior styling. It’s not fast, but what a package. And for that price too. Like driving the future.

RE: https://social.linux.pizza/@leffe/116648966836354921 It’s ridiculous that drivers have to put up with this kind of nonsense for completely ill-conceived ‘safety’ features. The #EU needs to remove this requirement. They have become actual #safety detractors as they cause major distraction. Everything was brought into law without any major public discussion. I can only guess #Israel company #MobileEye lobbied heavily for this, as they have a virtual monopoly on several aspects. @EUCommiss...

Great idea by #Ferrari to create the sound of an #EV car by using the vibrations of an actual accelerometer linked to the drive. Thus creating more authentic noise to give aural drive feedback. I’d go further still and hook a straight live wire to an amp, electric guitar style. A really raw vibration. Also interesting to see they’ve used a similar wiper setup as the #Cybertruck (which everyone laughed at but I guess it’s cool now that Ferrari did it). https://www.motor1.com/news/796895/ferra...

I see a lot of arguments that are seemingly against #Mastodon growth: 'We don't need to be bigger than #Bluesky or #Twitter, we don't need to change anything'. But why would we intentionally want a platform that is difficult for users and obtuse? Many opensource projects seem to fall into that trap of thinking ease of use is somehow a bad thing, not worthy of attention. Surely the web is an example of why open standards, with good experience and business (the hor...

#Tesla’s #Elon #Musk admits that #FSD does not seem possible with the older HW3 hardware and will require camera and computer updates. I’ve been saying this for years and, if I’m honest, I don’t think HW4 can do it either. Not in the sense of full autonomy (which is how FSD was always sold as a vision). https://techcrunch.com/2026/04/22/elon-musk-admits-millions-of-tesla-owners-need-upgrades-for-true-full-self-driving/

Some people might not know this, but several decades ago the BBC destroyed a vast pile of their archive tapes (to vacate storage space). Back then reruns were rare, streaming was decades away and even VHS wasn’t around. Many, many gems were lost, probably forever. Including many classic episodes of #DoctorWho. Now, amazingly, two episodes never seen since the 60s have been found in someone’s storage! They will be restored and made available soon. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g7kwq1k11o...
