RE: https://infosec.exchange/@flyingpenguin/116399482954754093 Can I bring your attention to one of the best security write-ups I’ve read in a long while. Bravo, Davi. @mttaggart@infosec.exchange flagged this one to me.

Good lord, I hate security conferences these days. Save me.

I’ve just witnessed a horrific LinkedIn trend in person. There’s an increasing contingent of cultists saying: “We should refer to the field of IT as ‘AI’ because that’s what the future is” I’m not sure what podcast they heard it on, but some guy just said to me: “You work in AI, don’t you?” Um… no? Security and IT “Yeah, AI” This person made a choice to attend a major tech conference and be this stupid. Stop the planet, I’m disembarking.

Spent 30 minutes trying to get Lords of the Fallen updated to 2.5 yesterday. Turns out they remade the game with the same name, basically the same theme and environments 9 years later, and just didn’t say anything. Purchased now, but feeling a bit silly.

Ok. Put a good shift into Lords of the Fallen (2023). I’m about 7 or 8 bosses deep. It’s really good. I’m a big Soulsborne fan, I’ve finished pretty much every FROM game made, even their other franchises, and this is probably as close to it as you’re going to get to that Dark Souls feeling. Has some interesting mechanics, like your first death not being ‘final’, but results in an increasingly hostile world until recovery, and switching between the current and a darker, more decayed version of...

It’s international test your backups day! Go test your backups, don’t just check they exist. Do they restore? Is the RPO expected? Do they reintegrate? Is data integrity preserved? HA is not BCDR. You’ve been warned.

Daylight savings time is getting in the way of me quickly calibrating my nuclear war clock today. Usually it doesn’t matter, but we’re on short notice lately.

I really don’t care if your revenue stream goes down the toilet. Your business model was garbage to begin with. We had ‘Boom and Bust’ I think the new way is ‘Abuse and Bust’.

There’s a point in Metal Gear Solid (PS1) that’s effect will be totally lost on modern audiences, which I think is a bit of a technical marvel. A wonder of fourth wall breaking. Most people know that Psycho Mantis was an interesting fight, with lots of fourth wall breaking points. Reading your memory card, moving your controller with vibration, swapping controller ports, and most people saw the screen with the word ‘Hideo’ in the top corner. On that last point, most people don’t understand wha...

My wife always wonders how I’m a both a ‘morning person’ and a ‘night owl’. I remind her I start the day by washing amphetamines down with tea, and then continue this trend throughout the day.

Been in a gaming slump lately. Picked up Voin on a whim. And it’s a real hidden gem. A solo developer, too. Such an achievement. It’s like Doom meets Skyrim meets Borderlands meets Dishonoured meets Dark Souls. A dungeon crawling, parkour exploration, loot farming, build crafting, parry/dodge murderfest. Bloody gorgeous too.

I won’t be verifying that I’m over 18 on iOS 26.4, and as of yet, I haven’t seen any downside to not doing so. I do think this is going to backfire though. If it’s age restricted apps I can’t download, surely I’d just use the website instead. I hear that the intent is to utilise some sort of age verification flag, but I can’t see it being implemented at all. Put it this way… from 2016 to 2026, following GDPR mandates for handling visitors to websites only around 15% of public facing websites...

Love getting flagged by an AI service for using AI to plagiarise coursework. They quote a reference on a AI slop outlet site which scraped the content from another source. That source was…. Meeeeeeee Currently arguing with their submissions team.

I’ve been really burned out of modern gaming for a few years now. Sure there’s the odd gem, but there’s a good reason I’ve not been compelled to upgrade my 1080Ti. Arguably the best consumer GPU card ever released, turning 9 years old this month. I’ve been drawn to older, more polished, more mechanically sound games, entirely unphased by the allure of raytracing and more Ks to the screen. This isn’t nostalgia talking. Looking back you can see key points where the artistry and passion of it all...

These people have no clue what car combat awaits an unattended car on UK roads. It’s bad enough in the US. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2drw12z51o?at_medium=RSS&at_campaign=rss
