... so I read this and have to say the women are right to delay marriage and getting pregnant. Have Republicans ever stopped to wonder why the birthrate in the US is falling? Something about unaffordable everything? https://www.salon.com/2026/06/12/tpusas-new-message-to-girls-hate-yourself/

This Reflecting Pool fiasco is wearing me out. From the WH skirting Congress to fund it, to the exclusive no-bid contract to a donor, to the sheer audacity of an ill conceived vanity project that fails to consider the practical implications of design, (like blue absorbs heat from the sun rather than reflecting it). Now the administration blaming people for vandalism for securing peeling paint that for the love of God needs to be removed anyway. OK, I feel better now...

The reviews for the President's performance at the rescheduled WHCD seem clear: A BUST. More than that, though, the reputations of those media names in attendance are forever sullied. https://variety.com/2026/politics/columns/donald-trump-whcd-2026-speech-1236821466/

Excellent write-up by Amanda Marcotte on right-wing criticism of AOC for choosing to freeze her eggs. Almost comical the response of right-wing women when faced with the same choices. https://www.salon.com/2026/08/12/aoc-exposes-magas-motherhood-hypocrisy/

This is good about how toxic masculinity ignores the realities of everyday life. Also very important, what we teach our boys about what it means to be a man. https://www.salon.com/2026/08/28/the-high-cost-of-maga-manhood/

RE: https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/116494101870011069 Yup, used all this stuff. My first IBM PC had only one floppy disk drive. Monochrome monitor too. The company I worked for had one workstation with a color monitor (that was cool!). Also a calculator that looks like mine from sixth grade (a TI-30).

We, the women of one country, will be too tender of those of another country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs. From the bosom of the devastated Earth a voice goes up with our own. It says: “Disarm! Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice.” - Julia Ward Howe, 1870
