#WritersCoffeeClub 21Aug—What's a mistake a lot of writers make when writing about people w/ your lived experience? When SA is mentioned and there's no effect on the victim. That's NOT what happens. Ever. Everyone who's experienced SA is affected. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and often for life. The worst is when authors use that character's experience to propel them into promiscuity. In those cases, the author is always male, and the character is...

#WordWeavers 21Aug—What's a trope you enjoy writing, even if it's unpopular? I write romantic fantasy, a genre that's full of tropes. My favorite: Friends (or allies) to lovers. Enemies to lovers is more popular these days, but I'm kind of over that. I also enjoy the soulmates trope, which is sort of the fated mates trope, but I do it without all the drama.

I decided to finally get some photos of the complete The Way of the Wielder series. Partially for marketing purposes, partially because they're so pretty! 🥰 Anyway, these are the four best, so now I'm asking you: Which is your favorite? #Poll #Writer #Author #WritersLife #WritingCommunity #Marketing #Aesthetic #Books

#WordWeavers 29Aug—What writing accomplishment are you quietly proud of? Since I'm terrible at celebrating my accomplishments and wins, I'm quietly proud of all of them. Some of them I'm more quiet about than others. I think the one I'm most quiet about is completing a series with a satisfying ending. I was worried that book 4's final battle wouldn't compare to book 3's, but I'm really happy with how it came out.

#WritersCoffeeClub 10Aug—Do you reuse characters? Only within a series. Although, there is mention of one character from The Way of the Wielder series in Tredania Chronicles (my next series). They're not described in any detail, and don't even go by the same name, so you'd never know unless you read both series. But for those who have... Oh, what a treat that little discovery will be. ☺️

My husband (@securingdev@infosec.exchange) is in Las Vegas this week for a tech conference. On Wednesday, someone came up to him and asked, "Are you related to Sarah J. Hoodlet?" Apparently, she had no idea who he was (he's fairly well-known in his industry), but she's a MASSIVE fan of my books! 🤩 I can’t believe it. I’m elated, humbled, awed, and—admittedly—a tad uneasy. Is this what it’s like to have low-level fame? This can’t be real. If this was you, please say hi! 👋 #w...

I present to you, a female hummingbird enjoying some nectar from the massive cardinal flowers in our flowerbed! It's hard to tell, but this hummingbird was maybe five feet from me, which is the closest I've ever come to a hummingbird (unless I'm filling their feeder, then they dive-bomb me 😅). And the cardinal flowers... I'm not kidding when I say they're massive. Some of them are at least four feet tall, which is outrageous. #Nature #Birds #Hummingbird #Wildflowers #Bloo...

POLL TIME! My mom loved Stephen King's novels. Two in particular: The Stand and Needful Things. I've only tried reading one—Pet Sematary—and I... found it lacking. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance, or I went into it thinking I'd be scared from the start and I wasn't. At all. Either way, I DNF'd. But this year, to honor my mom, I want to read one of her two favorite Stephen King novels. So, which one should I try? #Books #Poll #StephenKing #Reading #Horror #Fi...

Well, it's happening. I just signed up for my first ever author event! 🥳 I have 7 weeks to prepare an aesthetically-pleasing display, order books, and possibly acquire a tent (it's rain or shine). Authors who've done something like this, I have questions. – How many books should I have on hand? – What kind of swag, if any, is appropriate? – Should I order a banner or blanket for the tabletop? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you! 🙏 #Writer #WritingCommunity #Author...

#ScribesAndMakers 18Apr—Do you ever read aloud, either to yourself or others? I do not. Sometimes I'll whisper, but never above that. In elementary school, we often went around the class and read aloud from textbooks. I was usually made fun of for stuttering through words I didn't know, or jumbling words because I read too fast. Since then, I don't read aloud, save the occasional quote from what I'm reading to my husband. Fortunately, I've not yet been in a position where...

#WordWeavers 6Apr—Can you create a character/place/story/hook/device on the spot if you need to? If so, share an example. Honestly, I doubt it. I'm terrible at ad-lib, or anything like it. If I need something like that while drafting, I often take a break and let my mind noodle over what's needed for a while. Not exactly "on the spot".

I'm really enjoying re-learning German! 🤗 I would like to continue learning after our trip as well. The app I use (Pimsleur) has 5 levels, but after that, I'm not sure where to go for advancement and practice. German friends: any recommendations? I'm interested in reading and speaking, so any easy to read German books (likely for kids) are welcome! Vielen danke! 🙏 #German #Language #LanguageLearning

Question for my fellow authors of series: When creating release day/marketing materials, do you feature just the first book, just the latest book, or the whole series generically? I'm publishing the last book in my series tomorrow, and I'm trying to decide how I want to go about it. Right now, I'm leaning toward the whole series generically. Your vote and/or thoughts are appreciated! ☺️ #WritingCommunity #Writers #Writing #Author
