There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Yes, profits is a misleading word. Investments? Lots of money is being thrown around. Is it real? shrug

Whether it is possible or not, we're not going to get to AGI levels because we're going to kill each other first. It was just a matter of time. Atomic bombs paused us a bit, but then we got smart and figured other ways to ruin everything.

I know it’s old, but the first thing that came to my mind was Bambi. Maybe not the most mature subject, but watch that with a kid and then field the “where’s his mom?” question.

Not a manual that came with the game, but back when SimCity 2000 first came out, there was a companion book in bookstores for it. Lots of hints and backstories on development, if I remember. Lots of humor too. It was a great read.

I read the last line that wrapped as "no internet connected" and thought, that's hard core, man.

I wish I still had my Okidata printer I used with my C-64. Yes, it's dot matrix and slow, but it knew its job and did it well. Same with our later HP 5P. Solid. What the hell happened, HP?

Almost half, meaning less than half. Which could be low twenty percent. Not a great track record for something you can't respawn.

Pace car speed in NASCAR is 45-60 mph, with pre-start getting around 100 mph before letting them go. Fast, but hardly flat out in a sports car. The point was that at those speeds that normal people drive regularly, it is very slow on a track built for high speeds.

I guess it's consent. The master/deity or their aide comes to the servant and tells them of master's will, the great plan. The servant says, yeah, okay. Yet another fail in writing. Why not make it so God and Gabriel give her the choice, and she adamantly agrees? Remove all doubt from the story's plot. Or better yet, add some drama, have Mary unsure, and Gabriel explains the importance (not that it's already planned, but why her choice is key to the direction of salvation and a...

Yes. it can absolutely be spun that way, as I said. As most anything in the Bible can be. Let me ask this then. Could she have said no? And when would that have happened?

There wasn't consent though. It can be spun that way, but biblically Mary was destined to carry, and screw any free will.

That's the "I might be okay" moment, followed by the body's too early, "oh, we're there?" at the last few feet. Sometimes you can distract the mind a bit more by focusing on something else while you make the last steps. A lot like how flying works in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, you have to notice something totally off-topic and forget you're about to hit the ground.

It definitely is. But you know what's worse? Returning a used lawnmower at the end of summer, expecting a refund. Regularly.

Speaking as a guy, not always true. I've lost some of the skill, but there was a time when I worked with paints mixing colors, and I was very good at finding the right shades for people who were lost (men and women). I understand that there are subtleties within every color. My sarcasm would always come out though, when someone would bring in a piece of wood and ask to color match it. I'd ask "which brown"... but then would give them excellent service and figure out what work...

When GIMP's version 3 came out, it got a lot of great reviews. I can't tell you what's different or better, but in using it myself since then, it doesn't "feel" as daunting. Very subjective, but definitely try it out again; it might work for you this time around.
