ResearchEquals is not affected by the new tanstack breach Please check your own projects too – these security events are happening more frequently now and we need to keep each other informed. > TanStack npm Packages Compromised in Ongoing Mini Shai-Hulud Supply-Chain Attack https://ino.to/QECN1xY

Great to see the Open Source for Science Fund launched for the life sciences! We also need this for open scholarly infrastructure. Our funds run out end of 2027 and are actively looking for ways to sustain the project in a way that sustains our values.

We are actively working to make ResearchEquals safe by design. To prevent bots and bad actors, we now require manual approval for new accounts and we can quarantine accounts upon suspicious activity. This is about actively caring for the space we seek to create, not gatekeeping. All genuine research practice remains welcome.

Fake references are spreading in the literature. AI models are an important cause. Our antidote? πŸ§ͺ Automated references, generated based on the links in the text. No more manual reference formatting + immediate source retrieval. Try it out πŸ‘‡ https://researchequals.com

Efforts to federate research infrastructures should not reinvent the wheel. ResearchEquals seeks to federate with the Fediverse instead. > By using ActivityPub to federate research publishing, the act of publishing becomes the act of distribution. https://doi.org/10.53962/xjps-ne16

    > Users can secure grants to conduct research built entirely on these holdings, while the infrastructure itself receives comparatively little, and in some cases nothing at all. So true – tho there are shining lights who proactively reach out and WANT to help finance https://issues.org/open-data-research-%20infrastructure-gibson-thaney/

We spent the week hardening our security by encrypting secrets in a forward reliable manner. Easy to manage and keep information secure. This kind of maintenance you'll only know about when it does not work. Or if we tell you. We need your support to make sure the pluming works, so get in touch if you have leads! https://git.libscie.org/researchequals/api/releases/tag/2.5.0

ResearchEquals got reviewed in Katina Mag! > its flexibility across disciplines and its inclusive concept of research outputs make it easy to share one’s work at any stage, and its user-curated collections effectively surface high-quality content. I recommend it. https://katinamagazine.org/content/article/resource-reviews/2026/platform-shows-what-modular-publishing-can-accomplish

Researchers are targeted under a US policy that allows visa denials and revocations based on their work. This is a direct attack on #AcademicFreedom Coalition for Independent Technology Research filed a lawsuit challenging this policy – and asking the court to stop the government from targeting the public-interest research community so that scientists, students, and non-profit workers can continue their work without fear of retaliation.
