Malabar squirrel. University apparatchik. I will try to be your friend. Rodent retooter. Most of my posts lay somewhere on the spectrum of being a kind of observational humor and a dharma talk. Occasionally silly, almost always sincere.

I saw my 13 year old niece texting her friends on her ipad. She went through it quicker and with more facility that I do with my own chat apps, despite her being a third my age. I notice that one of the images is a photo of a similarly-aged girl giving the middle finger. I ask her what app this is and she nonchalantly says "oh, its my school's chat app"

Today on the radio I heard that some of the biggest datacenters can be 600 megawatts or more. This is, I'm assuming, the thermal output of the cooling system. Global warming potential of fossil fuel emissions aside, where do people think that heat goes? Like, they understand that is going to atmosphere, right? In an industrial scale. Right? We are like the frogs in a pot of heating water. Except we're also building the stove.

scrolling isn't rest Posting isn't rest Television isn't rest Video games isn't rest True rest is goalless, non-consumptive, and non-identity forming. True rest resembles or is: sleep, meditation, daydreaming, pondering, exercise, or art. The reason we are all so burnt out is we habitually use technology thinking that is rest. In truth, that just makes it worse.

Three things that are simultaneously true: - The internet is a Bad place to have formative childhood experiences. - Our society is giving children vanishingly fewer real life alternatives, because these are expensive and unprofitable in the eyes of people who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing. - Age verification is some bullshit.

I'm a believer in the non-religious, non-mystical, completely secular power of prayer. It's basically just reminding yourself of how you want to be.
