If all of you all (you know who you are) currently exploring #NetBSD (for, uh, reasons*) would donate a little bit of money to the NetBSD Foundation, I am sure that sad little gauge under the logo would look a lot better. https://www.netbsd.org/donations/#how-to-donate Because right now, it stands at about 12K out of a goal of 50K and it makes me sad. πŸ˜” Donate! πŸ’Ά πŸ’΅ πŸ’· (* good reasons, I might add) :netbsd:

Headline in the guardian: "If you build something vastly smarter than you, it better be on your side’: can we stop AI from deceiving us?" Mate, AI is NOT smarter, it's just parroting what it has read elsewhere, calculating the most probable response to your input and consistently failing to provide correct replies. Because it's not intelligent at all. And it does not even have any process remotely looking like intelligence. AI is just a marketing term. Stop repeating the B...

"As the fight over AI data centers heats up, some polls have shown that AI is less popular with Americans than Immigration and Customs Enforcement." Now THAT takes some hard work! I have come to hate the term 'AI'. I hate it because AI does not exist. Just because you have an automated parrot on your computer does not make that machine 'intelligent'. Even if you have 10000 computers running the same software, those machines are not 'intelligent'. What you have is a poor statistical model. So, stop using 'AI'. This term is pure propaganda, designed to make you despair. Use better terms: 'machine generated', 'statistical non...

At the end of the day, COVID-19 made people realize: - They could work from home and that most offices are shitty places. - Their job was really shitty. - Governments could finance pretty much anything they wanted. - Global warming could be stopped. - The really important jobs were the ones that are the worst paid (nurses, for instance). - Most governments are run by idiots, who are in the pocket of the wealthiest.

I think I need to repeat this: - No info in your bio = no follow. - No alt text for images = no boost. Sorry, not sorry. I want people to interact with, and not anonymous chum. And if you can post an image, you can also take two minutes to write a short description in the alt text. This helps a lot of people. Also, please learn what a content warning is and use it. That also helps. A LOT. Do I sound like an idiot? Maybe, but there is a good chance I was on the Fediverse before you.

The only way to avoid fake LLM CVE, bug reports, etc... is to have formally verified code, that is guaranteed not to have bugs. Something that ada + spark have been doing for years. Just like Trump dumb war on Iran is pushing everyone, everywhere, to use renewables, LLM and fashbros war on the Internet and open source may well push everyone to adopt formal methods and serious engineering for code. At least, one can dream.
