ok, I think I'm done with one step of the re-uploading :blob_sweat: the entire library is now up on Peertube, so go take a listen: https://vid.northbound.online/w/p/rzsHD6x1dtTqQY2vMgRB38 I think I'm going to trickle the videos out onto Youtube at a once-a-week pace so I don't entirely tank my channel's algorith (or what's left of it) :bear_shrug: for those who have no clue what's going on: https://cutie.city/@OctaviaConAmore/117283260020988930

being disabled is always expensive (I have to pay more for things I can use instead of being able to do it myself), but here's an example of a cost that might not be obvious: I have POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), which means my heartrate spikes when not laying flat :psyduck_sweat: one tool used to mitigate some of the effects is compression leggings (from my ankles to the bottom of my ribcage), which were $30~40 for a decent pair... which now doesn't compress my b...

I might have to use Windows just for DaVinci Resolve because, even though I have eveything else about the Linux version set up (including successfully importing my full projects library), the Linux version refuses to detect the font I use for my videos :frog_sus: as if my body wasn't enough of a roadblock... #Linux #DaVinciResolve

Hey Fedi, I know there are a good lot of you want actionable ways to fight fascism. You know how one of the strategies that fascists use is to overwhelm people and make them freeze up, unable to fight back? :shiba_confused: I know many of you might not be used to this because it doesn't really exist on major social media platforms, but we have a thing here called a content warning (CW) that collapsed a post with little custom tags on it. Think of it as consent. Instead of forcibly pouring...

This is going to be mostly my personal experience with long covid, interspersed with bits of knowledge I receive from the various medical staff that are helping take care of me~ :shiba_excited: I'll try to make sure I just reply to the last post so people new to the series can look back at the old posts easily :bugcat_nod: Hopefully, it can help people understand some of the effects of this rather widespread, invisible disability that I and countless others have to fight day in and day out...

:boosts_ok: In light of the continued enshittification of Youtube, I've finally scrounged together the energy to get files shrunk down and uploaded to a peertube account :frog_blush: @octaviaconamore@vid.northbound.online It won't include any full streams since there's a 20GB total data limit, but I've uploaded every stand-alone book reading I've recorded :bugcat_nod: Most of them are still waiting to be transcoded server-side, but the whole YT library will be up in a few...

In this capitalist hellscape, I think most of us grow us having the equating of rest with laziness, moral failure, and half a dozen other negative things hammered into our heads until it's etched nearly permanently in the deepest recesses of our subconscious, affecting nearly every action we take in like, even affecting the way we yalk to ourselves :cat_frown: One of the things I had to learn when I became physically disabled was that rest isn't a luxury. I do still have a choice to si...

just in case anybody wonders why I cwboost post with the tag "on a white background", it's because long covid can give you light sensitivity that feels like migraine light sensitivity feels (i.e. painful), and far too many of the people who see my posts have long covid :cat_frown: for reference, even with my phone screen set to the darkest it can get to, coming across something on my feed with a white background is literally painful for me :not_like_this: I'm just glad Moshid...

If I do nothing else in this life, I want to impress upon as many people as I can the importance of words. I know they're easy to throw around... "they're just words", some will say... But words have meaning, history, baggage, context, *consequences* :frog_sus: While I don't believe magic exists in our world, I get why many magic systems are based on words, whether that be incantations, curses, true names, or whatever else... Whether they be multisyllabic monstrosities f...

"The moment someone believes their mission exempts them reflection, they stop being a force for good." ~Loose Threads (Luke) This line was uttered in the context of analysing Ghibli villains that, in other contexts, might have been the hero, but it seems to explain my experience of seeing people purportedly fighting for social justice commit lateral violence :cat_think: Often, they will have some sort of actual track record, but have teetered off the path, or be dismissive of others,...

Since yesterday was international trans day of visibility, let's talk about visibility :zerotwo_learn: Being visibly trans (and more broadly, queer) is dangerous. I don't mean "you'll get nasty messages", I mean you risk getting doxxed, or mobbed and cut off from communities which are our very lifeline (in every sense of the word), or having random fuckos fantasizing about bashing your head in with a baseball bat, shooting you up with an ak-47, or sending credible threats...
