What I would like to see is local organizations, like even city councils, running programs to arm thier citizens. Ideally with free training and such as a requirement. Super awesome would be if they setup shop near protest sites to do some basic training and then sell the weapons to the people legally for like $10 or something. Essentially, legally and responsibly arm the protestors. If ICE starts shooting, they return fire. That should really give ICE pause.

Well in this case it probably isn't money he is after, but attention and fame. That said, just tell him you had a past "incident" you don't like to talk about, but that your image shouldn't be on anything that might give away your current location. Lol.

I just couldn't stomach paying someone for nearly all the gig work option. The exception was uber. The taxi companies always pissed me off. Using a credit card was harder than it needed to be for a long time, and they just didn't bother to try new things to improve the experience. And of course there are the ones that controlled the supply so they could drive up prices. But I still only used it when on vacation, like in vegas. But shopping for me, and all that. Just couldn't do...

The number of times I have explained to doctors how their advice is great, but just not practical is astounding. And they just don't have advice that is practical for people with ADHD. They don't teach that in medical school.

I don’t see the post as disagreeing with you. The graphic alone is pointing out what you are saying. Skills alone doesn't get noticed. So you need a degree to be seen, which gets you a job, which reduces stress, which makes you happy. But it is sad that it is true. I favor getting a degree, not for the education, but for the 4 years of experience living on ones own and having to handle life that it gives most people. It is also often an important social education. But I don’t like the...

What I find vaguely interesting is that the US hasn't managed to privatize unemployment insurance. I mean it could be made much more inefficient, line the pockets of the billionaires, and be of less use to laid off employees. Doesn't capitalism demand it be privatized?

I totally agree with you on it being forced where it doesn't belong. I am just not for abolishing it or whatever was proposed here. I think there is middle ground. It can be useful for somethings. In many cases it is being forced on the workforce so that some senior vp can say they made AI happen and get a nice big raise. In others it's so they can say it in the earnings call to boost the stock price. But forcing the workforce to do stupid things for these reasons is nothing new.

There certainly is a group of people who believe in AI strongly. One part of them is just listening to the hype and jumpping on the wagon. Another part however is investing real time to understand it. They work to give it structure and guardrails so that it does what they want it to. And they help others do the same. But currently it still takes a lot of time investment to get good at using. And most people aren't expecting that. But as the second group grows, and the methods for the...

There are absolutely some economic factors that can have serious impact on it. And they are impossible to predict. If you really could, you would be rich. But, I don't see it likely to be an assistant. It's actually pretty terrible at that. My thinking is that it is a tool like any other. It will take a person significant investment to get proficient with it. Down the line, hopefully it will be more streamlined to distribute learnings and such that make it more accessible to those w...

I always say that if you rely on metrics (like does the applicant have a degree or not), you will get people who have optimized for just the metric. It's a lot like paying programs for the bugs they fix. It just doesn't go the way you planned.

It's not hypocritical. Because you use AI to code, you know how easy it is to just let the AI do it's thing and not check it's work. It's almost like a sirens song. So you know the odds that a library that was coded with AI probably wasn't checked by a human. That's just called experience.

See and that is why I almost pitty such people. They never learned how to be a normal person. How to be satisfied with what you have. But I did say almost. Cause they make the world a shithole for the rest of us.

At this point, many of us are numb to the impending whatever. There is always 6 things happening that shouldn't be happening (that we know about) and that could upend our lives. And usually there is very little we can do besides yell on the internet.
