I still get irritated thinking about The Rise of Skywalker. From Finn being relegated to just shouting Rey! Rey! most of the movie, to the ancient Sith dagger that JUST happened to have the exact same silhouette as contemporary wreckage, to Palpatine's return. F--- this movie. Plus, I HATED Palpatine returning when Dark Empire did it in the '90s. 30 years did not change my opinion about it. #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema

#WordWeavers May 30: Is it possible for someone in your world to make a living as a writer or artist? Yes, the peoples of my worlds respect the arts and don't feel entitled to them without compensating artists, though it's an easier life in some settings than others. #Books #Writing #WritersOfMastodon #WritingCommunity

1996 had the dueling sci-fi alien invasion films Independence Day and The Arrival (which I mentioned earlier this week: https://chirp.enworld.org/@JediSoth/116630058798738719). While I enjoyed the heck out of ID4, I thought The Arrival was a better film overall. Like all three sets of these dueling genre films, the better film wasn't necessarily the one that made the most money. #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema

People who design mobile apps that require you to scan a QR on the app in order to log-in are idiots. I can't scan the QR on the device that is displaying the QR code... maybe if I use a couple of mirrors?

The first Studio Ghibli film I ever saw, Princess Mononoke blew me away with its visuals and storytelling. Every time I see it, there a moment where I think "OMG this movie is so f-ing good!" #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema

#MST3K The Movie is basically a theatrically-released episode of the series near transition between Comedy Central and the then Sci-Fi Channel. It's still a fun way to watch This Island Earth. I loved this show so much. #Rifftrax carries the legacy well. #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema

#WritersCoffeeClub May 24: What do you need in order to finish your current WIP? It probably needs another rewrite and I need the motivation to do so, because I don't see the point in much of anything these days. #Books #Writing #WritersOfMastodon #WritingCommunity #FirstFire

I didn't see this for a few years after release, and after I played Half-Life, so my first thought was "Holy crap, Charlie Sheen is GORDON FREEMAN." It's a decent sci-fi alien conspiracy film, released during the height of Sheen's popularity and during Ron Silver's "play a dickbag in every film" phase. #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema

#WordWeavers May 25: What one event defines your MC? Lysandra's wedding night, and all the events that occur, are a pretty defining event in her life, even if it seems catastrophic to her in the moment. #Books #Writing #WritersOfMastodon #WritingCommunity #FirstFire

#WritersCoffeeClub May 25: Share a late-stage change you made to a work. On of my final read-through of Wings of Twilight prior to publication, I discovered that I completely changed one character's weapons. So, fixing that was fun. #Books #Writing #WritersOfMastodon #WritingCommunity

There are still elements that I think are unnecessary or... well... bad, but Episode I: The Phantom Menace kickstarted a #StarWars film/TV renaissance that is still on-going. The final lightsaber duel still leaves me breathless. #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema

#WordWeavers May 26: What is your antagonist’s earliest memory? Probably playing in her mother's fields. The childhoods of Greek gods are not well-documented. And making something up is beyond the scope of #FirstFire. #Books #Writing #WritersOfMastodon #WritingCommunity

Despite the cringe of "I hate sand..." and the whole Anakin/Padme romance, I actually enjoyed Attack of the Clones more than The Phantom Menace, overall. The lightsaber duels aren't as good, though. Everything with Obi-Wan on Kamino is solid GOLD. #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema

#WordWeavers May 27: What does victory mean for your antagonist? It's not victory she's after. She's punishing a mortal who insulted her (as Greek gods tend to do). Once that's done, everything else is inconsequential. #Books #Writing #WritersOfMastodon #WritingCommunity #FirstFire

When the #StarWars prequels were announced, Revenge of the Sith was the one we were all waiting for. Well, mostly... this movie contained everything we expected all three films to have: the Clone Wars, Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the fateful duel between him and Obi-Wan. We just didn't expect it to all be crammed into one #film. Back in the late '90s, no Star Wars fan was clamoring for an entire film featuring Anakin as a child, just sayin'. #MovieADay #Movi...

#WordWeavers May 28: What is your MC's relationship to nature? I'm considering shelving #FirstFire revisions for now; it needs a lot more work than I can do this summer, I think, so I'm going to punt on this one while I figure out what I'm going to do next. #Books #Writing #WritersOfMastodon #WritingCommunity

From 1996-1998, we got dueling genre films each year. 1997 was the year of Volcano and Dante's Peak. IMO, which one you like best boils down to Tommy Lee Jones or Pierce Brosnan? #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema

1998 gave us dueling genre films Armageddon and Deep Impact. Armageddon did better at the box office, but is a much worse film by almost every measure. I don't need to see it again, but I would watch Deep Impact again. #MovieADay #Movies #Film #Cinema
