I wonder if any radio operators utilize isolated grounds in their radio rooms. These outlets are typically orange and have a green triangle printed on the cover.

Ouch! Did you feel the incredibly intense humidity on Sunday? Not only was it the hottest day in four years at the Minneapolis and St. Paul Airport, but we had late night dew points of 81 degrees there, as well. That was only one degree away from the all-time record dew point at MSP but that’s not as impressive as the other statistic. Prior to Monday morning, MSP had only recorded 28 total hours with a dew point over 80 degrees. On Monday alone, we were in that range for six straight hours.

For $2400 dollars Russell Bliss sprayed every road in Times Beach Missouri. For $33 million dollars the federal government bought the entire town and burned it to the ground. Between those two numbers is the story of how a chain of decisions, each one a little cheaper than the last, erased a community of 2000 people from the map and turned the place where they’d raise their families into a grass covered mound that hikers walk over today without knowing what’s beneath their feet.

#Economy The number of adults who are “not in the labor force” (NILF) surged to an all-time high in June to 105.8 million, according to figures from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The record comes after a massive surge of 832,000 workers dropping out of the labor force in June alone. The overall number of NILFs is higher than at the height of the Great Recession or the COVID pandemic.

August 8th is International Cat Day and so the amateur radio community will be hosting cat pictures via SSTV on this day. My opinion is all frequencies that are authorized should be used for SSTV. We can’t really call it a competition because clearly my cat would win so instead the goal is to celebrate all cats, big and small.

Did you know that you can send SSTV cat pictures while using FM? Not only that, but by using an FM repeater even more people can enjoy your cat pictures. Don’t have a ham radio license? SSTV works on CB radio as well.

6 Months of AI Radio Went About as Badly as You'd Expect The experiment was simple. A company gave four AI models $20 each and a fistful of instructions, then left them to their own devices. So, how did it go? Poorly, as you might expect. Andon Labs says that the longer the experiment ran, the more ridiculous things became. https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/ai-ran-four-radio-stations-for-six-months/

I’ve created a new non controversial age verification system for social media. It works as follows. The person on camera has to cook broccoli by boiling it and then eat it on camera. Those who can’t or won’t are definitely children, those that can are approved. Adding cheese, salt or any other flavor enhancer will automatically fail the verification. No personal data is collected.

Gone are the days of university freshmen reading classical philosophers like Plato or contemporary pedagogues like Ta-Nehisi Coates. These days, incoming college students are lucky if they can get through Judy Blume’s “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.” According to a new “Survey of Adult Skills” conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development a not insignificant number of adult students enrolled in higher education are now reading and doing math of a ten year old.
