Android 17 QPR1 was released for Pixels on September 15. It has a regression in the Pixel kernel driver tree causing stuttering, lag and outright freezes under memory pressure. It impacts GrapheneOS too since we updated the firmware/drivers but we fixed it for our release today.

Android 17 QPR1 is the first release since Android Honeycomb (3.x) adding new APIs for app developers without a release to the Android Open Source Project. The new APIs are currently exclusive to the Pixel OS and aren't available to other Android OEMs. https://developer.android.com/sdk/api_diff/37.1/changes

This account has been posting lies about what GrapheneOS has said and done for the past several days. Those are being widely propagated across this platform. People are being played. https://mas.to/@zzt/117246243842026067 This is very clearly a lie about what we said about codeberg and they're also lying about us about deleting posts we haven't. In previous threads they lied about us deleting a file we clearly never deleted and similarly lied about many things we said and did. https:/...

@darkwolf@hear-me.social GrapheneOS is an open source privacy project with a development team spread around the world. It exists to protect people from corporate and government surveillance. GrapheneOS isn't a business and our legal entity is a Canadian non-profit organization. GrapheneOS is entirely funded by donations. The majority of the donations are made via cryptocurrency. We pay people an hourly rate set in USD or CAD. We currently pay around 14 people with Ethereum donations and 1...

GrapheneOS imposes a set of restrictions on how generative AI can be used in our project and community. It isn't forbidden but rather we imposed rules based on actual issues. Posts made in our forum, chat rooms, issue tracker and the rest of our project must be written by humans. There's an exception from this rule for translation and accessibility features. That means commit messages, pull request messages, bug reports and feature requests are expected to be written by humans, not a ma...

Going from having a working implementation of a feature to code we can merge often takes a long time. It can take months or even more than a year. It doesn't always work out. Sometimes we decide a feature ended up being too invasive or risky for other reasons and don't want to include it. We'll often do rewrites. Contributors need a full understanding of what they've submitted and need to be prepared to make substantial changes including fully rewriting it multiple times. AI slop...

We're well into the process of converting the Messaging app included in GrapheneOS into a modern app. We'll be making a new release later today with a completely overhauled user interface written in Android Compose. We've made a massive amount of other improvements and bug fixes beyond that too.

We've developed a secure paste feature replacing traditional clipboard APIs. Users will be able to take away clipboard access from apps to use this instead. It integrates into the standard selection toolbar, input methods, accessibility services and keyboard shortcuts. We plan to get it merged soon.

We have good news about the Pixel 11. It still has at least bare minimum support for MTE at a hardware level. We think they removed most of the hardware acceleration from the CPU cache to save money. They ruined the performance so it ended up being fully disabled in firmware. It may still be usable.

Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 was released on August 28th. It's the first Beta release with Pixel 11 support. MTE support is still completely disabled in the OS and arm64.nomte is unconditionally passed by the firmware to the kernel. The good news is the firmware itself had MTE support added back to it.

Google replaced pushing Git tags for certain source code with obtaining source code via Google Drive after making a request through Google Forms. It's completely ridiculous and they've gradually become very slow at handling requests. They're in clear violation of the GPLv2 now.

Revolut recently banned using GrapheneOS without any justification. They're falsely claiming to do be doing it for security reasons. In reality, they're enforcing licensing Google Play. Revolut doesn't enforce security standards. It runs on Android 9 with no patches since 2018.

@benoit@benoit.jp.net Their devices lack basic standard privacy and security patches along with being the opposite of hardened. They do not follow through on their claims about open source. Robert Braxman is a blatant scammer selling people highly insecure products and services along with propagating huge amounts of fabrications about technology. Look at a few of his videos and that's easy enough to tell if you educate yourself about the topics. He's a serial fabricator. He also engages...

V-Key's libraries depend on private APIs and implementation details. This causes compatibility issues with new Android releases, OEM changes and GrapheneOS security protections. We're now aware of it and worked around the known compatibility issues. However, they need to start fixing it themselves.
