@harper g-naf_aug26_allstates_gda2020_psv_110 % grep -Ri "Barbeque" * Looks like this is indeed the case - only results are in building names for a few Victorian addresses in the "details" table. Nothing in street names.

@devopscats @xssfox DDR4 but it's UDIMM. I bought it new from OWC (their price was surprisingly good) so I've sent them an email asking about a warranty replacement.

@devopscats @xssfox amd epyc are fairly cheap on the used market and I think will take that - and tons of pcie

@erikarn @mjg59 Only sort-of true - it does mention that on an actual 8088 you'd sit there watching the windows repaint quite slowly - the emulator it's running in is many many times faster than the actual hardware would have been. The 68000 in the original Mac is several times faster than the 8088, and large chunks of the OS were stored in ROM, so didn't have to be kept in RAM or reloaded from floppy.

@mjg59 @erikarn True re the graphics - that had to go over ISA to be written into the video card, right? Whereas on the Mac it reads direct from system memory, interleaved with the CPU's accesses. Re the OS-in-ROM - definitely true, could have burnt that into a few EPROMs (or EEPROMs if really fancy).

@erikarn @mjg59 I'd definitely love to see that. Maybe the bit about it being too slow on real hardware was just an AI hallucination.

@xssfox @jpm @voltagex It really does feel like a sign of the times that the netinst image won't even fit on a CD. Though it's been many years since I last burnt a CD for this.

@DaveMWilburn @mattblaze @mhoye And this is precisely the point of that rhetoric - saying that the government shouldn't bother with people who may be "unprofitable". @hailey Looked at Wikipedia on Scroll Lock, laughed at this one: 'When PC Magazine asked an executive of keyboard manufacturer Key Tronic about the key's purpose in a 1983 interview, he replied "I don't know, but we put it on ours, too." '

@Athena Can someone familiar with ATProto explain the "content directly from appview" "posts sourced from appview" thing here? The explanation from Bluesky really doesn't seem to make sense. How does banning a system moderation account cause it to be "directly" viewed and why is that a problem? I'd thought initially it was something more like blocking their moderation account means they can't see your content to det...

@mjg59 Yes, that bit Apple badly back in the day - the swappable media bay in the Powerbook 5300 ended up being only just too narrow to fit a (full size) CD. So instead they made a drive that took only mini-CDs, which really was only seen in the movie Independence Day. Don't think it was ever commercially released, if it was, nobody bought one.

@xssfox I did once write something that put the latest line from an IRC channel on the display of a printer, by abusing PJLRDYMSG. Version 2 even disconnected from the printer afterwards, so it didn't render the printer incapable of printing anything.

@DavidPenington @MrLee The legal "250w" ones are allowed to exceed 250w for a brief time - EN15194 specifies the 250w rating is "maximum continuous power". Standard is a little ambiguous but it refers to another standard which specifies that it's measured at the output of the device - so potentially it's also measured at the rear wheel, not electric input. Since it doesn't take 250w to keep you at 25km/h, it can go harder when start...
