They are somewhat different, but the CBC serves the same purpose as RT, BBC, and now Trump News: to reinforce the ideas of the ruling class.

It’s worth noting that the ideology of the DPRK is Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, or juche socialism. This is an ideology that is connected with Marxism-Leninism, and accepts it as basically correct but overall incomplete, and as such Kim Jong-Il broke the historical connection with Marxism-Leninism and maintained that juche is an original revolutionary idea. So still socialist, still based on dialectical materialism, but unique historically and distinct enough for the Korean people themselves to de...

I never lied about your position. I genuinely responded to what I believed your position to be, and invited you to correct me. I will not lie about my own position just to satisfy you. I never once said your claim was “don’t organize, only vote.” I said you claimed voting to be more effective than organizing in the immediate moment. I asked for you to explain this, then you called me a liar.

I think it was a fairly reasonable conclusion from your response to this comment: That isn’t really what people are saying. It’s more that voting cannot bring about socialism, while revolution can, and that therefore treating voting as the primary political outlet for people hampers the organizing efforts needed for revolution. If you can explain your views better, and what you believe socialists believe, then it would be easier for me to know. I’m sorry if I misrepresented your views, but...

I don’t believe I made the point that “all protests are done by disciplined groups advocating for revolution and mass education.”

There are more than a few problems I have with your portrayal of events and class composition. I respect your sticking to your principles, but I have some heavy departures, both theoretically and historically. First, I am well aware that the composition of Bolsheviks became very mixed in a tumultuous wartime environment. This cannot really be denied, nor would I want to. What I want to push back on, however, is the notion that this resulted in a bourgeois character. The industrial base was des...

I think it’s reductive to claim soviet administrators formed a cohesive and distinct class, without justifying this. They gained their incomes from wages, and alongside the rest of the working classes were interested in continued collectivization of production and distribution. The problem wasn’t “Stalinism,” but instead the reforms under Khrushchev that facilitated the growth of a private economy that was not acknowledged by the state the way it is in China, Cuba, Vietnam, etc, which led to the...

Yep, all of the existing socialist states have had to adapt to the world we live in. China decided rapid development and integration would be the best way to prevent itself from being attacked, Cuba decided diplomacy via mass medical support and training would be best, the DPRK established nuclear deterrence and more self-reliance, and Vietnam and Laos took paths similar to China (and now Cuba).

The function of the Israeli system is genocidal settlers colonialism. It isn’t simply a preference of the state, but the entire foundation of the system.

No worries! Yea it has humorous undertones, and to communists it might get a chuckle but not really a laugh.

It sparks conversations. Plus, this is a community run by communists, so the target audience is communists.

A bit more gray area. The answer is yes, but the fundamental process of settler-colonialism in Mexico led to the majority of the population becoming mixed. Indigenous groups like in Chiapas still fight for sovereignty, but it isn’t the same as the US and Canada, where indigenous peoples were shut out, killed, and stripped from their land the same way. Ultimately, it’s a topic I have not studied enough to have a definitive answer to, like the US and Canada. The process of decolonization in Mexi...

Trotsky lived in LATAM during exile. As such, Trots exist in LATAM more frequently than in other global south regions.

The United States occupied the south under pretenses of facilitating an end to Japanese colonialism, as the soviets were doing in the north. The major difference is that in the south, General MacArthur declared himself dictator: [Article I] All powers of Government over the territory of Korea south of 38 degrees north latitude and the people thereof will be for the present exercised under my authority . . . [Article III] All persons will obey promptly all my orders and orders issued under my...

The PRC is a dictatorship *of the proletariat,* it's a democratic country that restricts the rights and free movement of capitalists. Public ownership is the principle aspect of the economy, controlling the large firms and key industries, finance sector, etc, while private and cooperative ownership dominates the small and medium firms. About half the private sector is just sole proprietorships, which don't make much sense to socialize immediately anyways from a Marxist perspective. I s...

The Kim family does have outsized influence, but the DPRK is not a hereditary monarchy. For example, the position of President, held by Kim Il-Sung, was abolished and split into multiple positions upon his death. This is why he is remembered as the “Eternal President.” As such, both Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jong-Un have held different positions. Both have held high positions, for example Kim Jong-Il had the title of General Secretary of the Worker’s Party of Korea, a position held by Kim Jong-Un pres...

People support the DPRK in its struggle for similar reasons people support Cuba: they are socialist countries that have achieved remarkable results despite intense sanctions thanks to their systems. It isn't "totalitarian," such a term is meaningless to begin with, it's a socialist state. The reason Marxists don't support Scandinavian social democracy is because it's both capitalist and imperialist. Private ownership is the principal aspect of the Scandinavian countri...
