After all the scientific or popular science books I read recently I am really looking forward to something more lighthearted but still with ornithology in it. Discovered through this video by Doug Hitchcox: https://youtu.be/Pkwqh7GAfKA?is=-THazGn4waOKj-dr #books #birds #ornithology #JamesBond #biography

#nature #fieldrecording #birdsound #birding

And here is the male Black Grouse song/ courtship call. Love the contrast between the soft roling sounds and the harsh hissing. #fieldrecording #nature #sound #BioAcoustics #BirdSong #BirdsOfMastodon

Been looking and listening for the Black Grouse again. This time with success. Saw and recorded both male and female. Due to a lack of a proper camera here is a shot taken through my bins of the female bird perched in a tree. Also a lovely work desk. Next home office setup 😉 #birding #birdcount #birdsofmastodon #fieldrecording #nature #BioAcoustics #fieldwork

So here is the recording from yesterday of the female Black Grouse singing (or is courtship call more appropriate?) Wasn't aware of this behaviour/ sound before. Realy love it. Only editing applied is a shelving EQ below 130 Hz. #fieldrecording #nature #sound #BioAcoustics #BirdSong #BirdsOfMastodon

Raven is now free and the workbench software Cornell has developed looks very promising/ intuitive for what it is. Next item on my to-do list - learn this stuff!!! I guess Raven Compass is also usefull for people who just want to do a quick conversion of many files. https://www.ravensoundsoftware.com/software/raven-workbench/ #freeSoftware #bioacoustics #cornell #sound #PAM
