For the perhaps two people who might care, the server hosting my Icecast, webserver and a couple of other misc things will be going down shortly for some much-needed upgrades. No ETA, because I'm not doing anything that matters with any of it, unless you are one of those two people.

I just had a silly sequence when performing a speed test from a Raspberry Pi 5 connected through a Tailscale exit node. It was as follows: Speedtest by Ookla [error] Error: [-3] Try again [error] Error: [-3] Try again Server: ReliableSite Hosting - Piscataway, NJ (id: 32339) ISP: Akamai Connected Cloud Yeah, maybe not so reliable? The test server and that particular error message actually have nothing to do with each other, but the fact that it happened like that amused me more than it shou...

Hi there. How's it going? It's 2:14 AM EDT on August 29. OK, it's not 1997, but this is the best I can do at the moment.

Thanks to Techmoan, I learned about this cute little song (two of them, actually) from 1956. I love stuff like this for some reason. The Boy With The Magic Guitar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgF3IvEeU8A And, as a counter to that, here's another boy, kkind of) with another magic guitar... sort of? There is a thick, round rubber foot stuck to my desk. It must have come off of something, but I'll be damned if I know what.

OH look. We (America) are on track to try permanent Daylight Saving Time again. It's happened before. It didn't last long. I expect more of the same if it happens. This time, though, we have states that can opt out, which is just going to cause a confusing mess. I can't wait. Bring on the chaos, it isn't like we don't have enough of it. Right?

This is a bit of a longshot, but figured I'd ask here anyway. About twenty years ago, I got a Digital Juice sound effects library on either 9 or 10 DVD's. They had multiple volumes, and I'm not sure which this was. The filenames are all something like 01234_sfx.wav rather than something easily searchable. I have all the files still, but not the database that came with it. In 2015, someone built a tool that reads data from a CSV and renames the files. Trivial to re-create, but I do...

Didn't do a thing that I should have done, because the opportunity presented itself, and won't do so again for another who knows how long. Yes, folks, I am the best at wasting opportunities, resources and allocation units.

I need more MicroSD cards. Now is a dumb time to buy anything flash/memory/storage. I'm seeing 32GB cards for the price I paid for 256GB a year ago.

I was just asked by my mother to hand her the lap… phone… pad, which is otherwise known as an iPad. I kind of like the other name better though.

@TheQuinbox@dragonscave.space Oh neat. Why foo_seekbox couldn't quite get this right, I don't know. Put the current time in the existing box, assign a hotkey, and yeah, that.

I want to take all the keycaps off of this keyboard, and replace everything that isn't control, alt, windows, space, backslash, shift keys and enter with W keycaps, then give this keyboard to someone who relies on looking at the keyboard for accurate typing. Why W? Why not? I could just as easily move the keycaps around randomly, but I think just having a bunch of W's would be more fun.

I was at the top of my game, both personally and professionally, in my late 20s and early 30s. I thought I had life pretty well figured out. Then, the universe said "HAHAHAHAHA, NO!" And that's where I am today.

I almost knocked a 40 something inch television off it's crappy stand/table thing. Fortunately, I caught it before it landed face-first on the floor and cracked. It's lite enough that I was able to grab it with one hand.

I've had T-Mobile 5g home internet for almost a month. In that time, I've discovered that the primary use for the T-Life app is to advertise T-Mobile Tuesday deals. IT also incidentally lets you pay your bill, control aspects of your device, etc. but it is mostly just another ad campaign conduit.

@ricky_enger I heard people talking about using leaf blowers to clear snow on a local ham radio repeater here yesterday. Problem was, they were trying that while it was still snowing. So, it worked, but not.

This just hit my YouTube timeline. I generally like what these guys do, and this is no exception. Open Reel Ensemble are here once again to celebrate Wikipedia's 25th anniversary by doing a bunch of tape manipulation to parts of articles read by TTS with other tape based musical stuff going on in the background, as they tend to do.https://youtu.be/M2BrXp3nEPo

Something I've been wondering about for a long time: There is a rather iconic klaxon type alarm sound that I've heard in all kinds of things for years. It's almost the Wilhelm Scream of bad stuff is happening alarm sounds. It's always had a very interesting texture to me. I first heard it on a crappy tank toy I got in 1991, right around the time of Desert Storm, but I'm sure it's much older than that. I'm just wondering if anyone knows t...

Lately, there has been some talk of the Franklin Language Master 6000 SE, a talking dictionary released around 1991, which holds some nostalgia for some of us blind and visually impaired folks. In February of 2025, not long after I acquired one again, during a thing we called #Movuary, I sequenced a silly little song using noises and phrases generated by the LM6000SE, along with a couple of drum tracks, on my then relatively new Ableton Move. I ended up only using three tracks for this project,...

It seems that, after running Tweesecake for Mac OS for a little while, all the buffers on just one session eventually are filled with silent items. New ones that show up generally do stuff. I've tried clearing the buffers, deleting the databases, etc. It keeps happening. Anyone else seeing this behavior? @app

Today I learned that 3.5mm TS to bare wire cables on Amazon are, for some reason, listed under medical care. In one product description, they had a special feature... Fast charging. I kinda doubt that. Please try again.

Probably a weird question, but, ehhh, oh well. Does anyone know, in the year 2026, where one can get 90 or 120 minute cassette takes without the non-magnetic leader? I suppose I can just take existing ones apart and cut the leader off myself, very carefully, but I'm not so good at cassette splicing these days. Why do I not want a leader? Well, I'm recording at quarter speed using an Omnicron VLR-4CT. With the leader in place, I would miss something like 20 seconds if pressing...

With Trump threatening to use nukes on Iran, and the Artemis II mission in progress, I am reminded of a short story I read as a kid, possibly a Ray Bradberry, (can't remember) in which two astronauts come back from the moon in the year 2000, only to find that all life on earth is about to end due to a chain reaction involving a hydrogen bomb. Just... ya know, thinking about that for no reason at all.

I just got my T-Mobile 5g home internet gateway thing set up. So far, I'm seeing download speeds around 550 Mb/sec, uploads around 28.5 Mb/sec. I've seen better from T-Mobile in this area, but I also don't know what the signal strength is. I think the front panel display on the gateway shows that as a graphic. My T-Mobile phone only gets 1, sometimes 2 bars, so this is probably not full strength. I'm just amused that, right now, I have about three times the downl...

I remember a lot of completely useless and totally irrelevant things. For example, the c: partition on my first Windows machine had 63,989 clusters. IP address assigned to me by my ISP in the summer of 2003 for a couple of weeks was 24.88.102.48. There are 36 divots on the PTT button for one of my ham radio microphones. if only I could redirect that part of my brain to do something useful other than retaining stuff like that, maybe I would be better off.
