IndiWeb Carnival. The month’s (August 2026) topic is “purpose”. Is purpose essential for life to feel meaningful? Does meaning create purpose? Not sure but #blaugust2026 #blaugust motivated this effort. https://www.bongotwisty.blog/indiweb-carnival_august_2026/

I probably don't need to sing the virtues of renewables again but maybe every song about climate should have this refrain: they're the cheapest way to generate electricity ever created; the wind and sun are themselves free and all you have to do is build the devices to capture them and store/transmit the resulting electricity; no country or region has a monopoly on it and virtually every country can become largely energy independent, ending the hideous geopolitics of fossil fuel; and bec...

Out yesterday on the helpers ride route checking for next week's Oasts and Coasts 300 National. Good company. Fine weather. Challenging route in places. Rye to Hythe via Romney Marsh fills me with dread but to be fair it was not too bad yesterday. Nearly always against the wind for 40k on this stretch. Not so yesterday. Same goes for Birchington to Reculver, Whitstable to Graveney and the long insidious climb up to the top of Hollingbourne Hill through Newnham, Doddington and Ringl...

Your Name in Landsat. It got me thinking about route planning. If you joined the letters up in a straight line you'd have about 80,000 km to ride. Bit tricky in places. Maybe too much to cycle on a whim but for future reference... #blogPost https://www.bongotwisty.blog/landsat/

Today, after 11 years with #ubuntu I've taken the leap and switched to #debian. It was a few things. Been thinking about it for a while. Increasing RAM requirement for 26.04 (I know it will run on less), enterprise partnership with MS, the planned integration of AI (however thoughtful it may be). I lost trust. One lap top so far and not the daily driver. Getting familiar with it first before I do that. Good opportunity to improve my partition strategy. I never actually had one be...

@morgan @ascentale @uxmark @bikenite I call out "bike behind" and add where it seems helpful "on your left" or "on your right" depending on where the most space is. I have found that's been generally well received.
