👍 Drm panic provides different panic screens. The default is “user” which will display a simple friendly message telling the user to reboot the computer. But for kernel developers, you can also set it to “kmsg”, to see the last kmsg lines (so this is equivalent to the current fbcon). You can select the panic screen in Kconfig, or as a module parameter (drm.panic_screen=user) or at runtime with “echo -n kmsg > /sys/module/drm/parameters/panic_screen” (source) In other words, cat /sys/...

Is this what systemd-bsod.service produces? Can it be safely masked, or otherwise disabled?

“This just in - running commands that induce a kernel panic causes a kernel panic, we’ll have more at 11.” What’s with the snark? I’m just sharing it because it’s funny (to me) that somebody gave a Linux kernel panic this aesthetic, referencing a much less loved OS.

BSOD I have no idea what the QR-code might reveal (I could not read it from this picture), so I pixelised it just to be sure. FWIW I know exactly what happened. To reproduce, boot your device with init=/bin/sh, then type exit. Kinda neat. CachyOS

[yt-dlp] What are your favorite/best configuration tweaks? Naked self-interest disclaimer: I want the best config for the --output option, one that sorts downloads into folders, respects playlist order etc., and never ever displays the string NA, no matter which extractor is used (I mostly use youtube and bandcamp).

Conky sucks. Long live Conky! I switched from 10 years of Openbox to KDE Plasma. This also means from Xorg to wayland. Plasma is great, it has almost everything. One thing I’m missing (until I’m able to write my own plasmoids/widgets) is what conky provides: a constantly updating overview of my top processes, what’s eating resources. If you ever tried to hack your own conky you must know how fragile it can be. Plus, it’s even more fragile on wayland. Most people run it in Xwayland, many...

New to both KDE Plasma and wayland - how can I make KeepassXC AutoType work? Been using keepassxc for years under X.org. Haven’t had a problem in years. Yesterday I decided it’s time to use a full DE, and switch to wayland at the same time. Setting up my newly installed CachyOS, I’m having weirdly inconsistent troubles with keepassxc’s autotype feature: Sometimes it just works, sometimes not. Typing into terminal windows seems to be particularly tricky, but I also noticed inconsistencies be...

I recently discovered that some popular federated instances have been using LLM-assisted moderation tooling First of all, I agree with your main point, that this* is problematic, wrong even (and should not happen). But I need to ask: how did you find out? Is this something that could be traced objectively, or did some people report/admit it? Are they uploading stuff to corporate LLMs, i.e. LLMs that do not run themselves? (I think you answered this already when you wrote OpenAI, but...

Related: it's been long known that giving unemployed people money is good for the economy. "I'm a supporting member of society because I work 40h/week, and you aren't" simply isn't true. I don't have the scientific paper to support this but I've known it since the 1990s. Economists know it too. It doesn't even have anything to do with "socialism".

    >To prevent the exploSive growth of child predators on certain digital platforms by defaulting to certain privacy and security settings for child users OK, that capital S isn't a big mistake, but can't they properly proofread their shit? It seems telling of how thought through it is - not. Also, this is a typical gish gallop argument: you need to first establish the "explosive" growth argument before moving on. I doubt it.

"Trump says" C'mon, I understand that rawstory or similar outlets post this shit but a "normal" news outlet? This is not news. Trump is a bad troll with no mods in sight. Yes, he also runs one of the largest economies in the world into the ground and actively kills and fucks over people everywhere. So make that the headline. Not one of his idiotic ~~speeches~~ fits of logorrhea. Pay more attention to what's going on behind the circus.

    >Microsoft survived on inertia. Windows was the default. Office was the default. GitHub, after the acquisition, became the default forge for software teams. That kind of position lets a company coast for a long time. That's how I remember it from before I switched to Linux. Just one off-topic niggle: when Github went M$, Git was already a big thing, and other big Sourceforges supported it, maybe most notably GitLab (I considered moving from GH to GL but GL was already way too corpora...

    > that seems something more valuable that (than?) energy spent Considering how much energy that used, we're going to have to disagree there. >Need for perpetual connectivity is bad, but companies have to make money and control their product, AI is solving that. You really lost me there. Good Bye.

It’s about the EU's _fear_ of falling back in tech. Which I think is a dumb narrative. And who pushes the hype that says AI is a must? Who profits the most? Certainly not the EU.

Here are Images Voyager Took. I have no idea how to sort them by recency; I’m guessing it’s not sending such expensive data anymore, but what are the most recent (and furthest) images?

Of all the people who find the right strategy to drive MAGA through the mud... I wouldn't have thought it would be an Islamic government. Not sure I should cheer this. But I guess I'll take it as a win.
