While I grew up hearing this advice, I don’t remember anyone taking it literally. Even as a little one I always understood it to mean the same as “walk it off”, also not entirely literal. What they really meant was the more literal and toxic “don’t just cry like a baby “

The huge egg price increases always were meaningless (to politics) and regional. It’s all local shortages from rolling culling events to stop avian flu.

I let my Costco membership lapse for a bit so now have - a small container of dishwasher detergent that was the same price at the grocery as costcos much larger - tiny rolls of paper towels that are in a similar sized case and similar price as costcos much larger - I had to get “family” sized cereal box instead of “mega” and it’s just not enough for me as a single person - 2 out of 3 grocery runs so far this year, there have not been “jumbo” eggs at any proce

If you’re starting with ha, don’t feel confined to only one. IMPORTANT: a local area mesh is not just a low powered way of connecting devices but is inherently local-only. Highly recommended The more common local area meshes include - Zigbee - open standard, lots of inexpensive sensors - Z-Wave - devices need to pay for certification but are more standard. I found more smart switches using this in my area - Thread - the new standard. Same frequency as Zigbee but IPv6 based. Slowly rolling out...

I recently found out one of my college kids believed the crap about raw milk. I told him that any such benefits were due to it being whole milk, not due to it being unpasteurized. I’ll take my milk fat without a side of diarrhea, thank you

Yeah I can see the temptation. Ai usage is part of my kpis and is the one place I got dinged on my review. I thought i was insulated as a “partly coding” position, but they put me against full time coders so I look even worse I guess they’re trying to force change, make us figure out how to make it work. The skeptic in me thinks it rewards people who have time to screw around, but when I set aside a week to see what I can do, I did increase my ai use. I did find some useful tasks that also...

I don’t blame the technology here but the implementation or the scenario - the article makes it clear they understand it’s an uncommon scenario to have to switch number so many times - wtf is the carrier doing requiring text 2fa to get a new eSIM? Thats just dumb - Apparently android needs some work? I have the opposite anecdote: eSIM has been _more reliable_ than physical SIM. It just works on my iPhone. I like never having to goto a physical store. When i got my new phone this fall it trans...

Last time I had to do this was a startup. We all worked insane hours trying to get the product off the ground but then - layoffs just short of a year so can save on severance - unemployment lower than my current mortgage - paid money to buy out my options in case the company made it, but a couple weeks later they reissued them to zero

My NetGear router still has a uselessly incomplete implementation of VLANs after 5+ years of updates, I was ready to replace it out of frustration. Gen 6 wireless is getting old hat anyway

I don’t get micro greens, can you point to actual non-hype details? Excusing the oversimplification, but is this just growing sprouts and clover to add to salads? When people talk about micro greens , they do NOT include spices, right? Nor anything we normally classify as salad? I see one description including arugula but that’s “lettuce” found in any grocery. Is it just to harvest ypur own baby arugula, or is there no distinction?

I’m not buying this. Sure minimizing dependencies is a good practice, but not updating? That’s a recipe for disaster. It’s important to note that you can’t predict supply chain attacks or vulnerabilities, and vulnerabilities are much more common. Also, while frequent updates might expose you to that supply chain attack more quickly, it also mitigates it more quickly. Frequent updates in combination with vulnerability scanning, and limiting downloads to reputable sources (that try to prevent...

Five years ago I splurged on a higher end laptop than I’ve ever had, and regretted it from the beginning. Even when new, the battery barely lasted an hour, and hyper-v was unable to do the VMs I wanted But I needed Windows for two reasons: tax software and gaming with my kids. Well my tax software also supports Mac and my kids are in college, so there goes my reasons. So I booted up the windows laptop to do my taxes. It started with not knowing my pin, my bad. But the alternate login was to...
