    I don’t understand this weird defense of the IRS in this thread. The IRS has always been problematic, and you highlighted the dumbest part: everyone is required to file. Why? So H&R Block and TurboTax can make billions off you. The government knows what you make, your employer reports it, your bank transactions report it, and the only income that truly depends on self reporting is cash “under the table” pay, which doesn’t get reported anyway… The IRS takes an 0 interest loan from every...

    98* was pure garbage. You could literally bypass the login screen on 98 because it had no real user account and tokens, just profiles for convenience. Driver support was awful, there was no memory protection so drivers constantly caused bsod. XP was the first time the consumer desktop got the NT foundation, meaning real user/session security, far better stability under load, and way fewer “one program crashed, so the OS is toast” moments. XP had its problems too, it's still Windows afteral...

    I've used debian/Ubuntu based distros most of my life, so that's what I'm most comfortable with, I've used arch/suse/Gentoo here and there but I always go back to debian based. Currently on pop os and have been daily driving cosmic desktop since alpha, REALLY happy with it. I attempted to install cachyos and the installer was super polished, but then it wouldn't boot on my hardware, so I went back to pop.

    So does Plex... It transcodes AV1 just fine. Clearly their hardware isn't powerful enough to transcode it smoothly. So they resort to codecs that play natively on their hardware
