In 2024 someone posted a bounty for a new feature in hydroxide (a ProtonMail bridge). It was a while since I've tried bounties, so at first I considered seeing if that would prompt high-quality, reviewer-friendly patches. After thinking about it for a bit, I've decided to reject the bounty: drive-by contributors aren't what the project needs, money is likely to foster a toxic environment due to failed expectations, and maintainer pressure would increase. These few last months, I've received more and more low-quality pull requests written via LLMs (sometimes autonomous). Authors can't even be bothered to read the thread to find out that there is no bounty anymore. I've closed the original issue in the hope that it'll stop PR spam, let's see if that helps…
